In this discussion area, please feel free to share your experience in implementing A.B.A. programs in the school system. We would particularly like to hear from those parents who converted their school teams to A.B.A. We’d like to hear the nightmares as well as the success stories.

Any insight that can be shared by school-based special education assistants to help parents would also be very meaningful.

May anyone point me to the web site about the funding and other information for the SEA? What schools are recommended or not recommended?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi All;

I have recieved a request from Elizabeth's SEA and teachers about composing a note to the parents & kids in her kindergarten class. Just an informational letter about Elizabeth & her autism. Wondering if any of you have a letter on file or any words of wisdom I can use. Kids and parents alike are curious…and it will be a great way for us to find a classmate that would like to do some morning peer play dates! Feel free to either post here, or e-mail me directly at alanandcindy@shaw.ca
    Thank-you.

    Sincerely,
    Cindy Campbell

    Marie and Dwight,

Sorry, I missed the part in your post about them not letting you observe. I would question that. It might be worth "shopping around"

    Marie and Dwight,

My son is 9 years and of all the school experiences that we have had, preschool was the most successful. James attended a montessori preschool in Coquitlam. He has Asperger's and hadn't been diagnosed at the time. He did not have an aide but was succesful regardless. I think that the montessori format works well for these kids.

    Good Luck!

Does anyone have experience with sending our kids to Montessori preschools? Our son is 4 1/2 and enrolled (as a trial run) in a Montessori preschool. The school won't allow an attendant in the class, and we're not allowed in to observe. Our son is high functioning, verbal, and he attended a regular preschool with an aid last year. But we're not sure how this one will turn out.

    Thanks,
    Dwight & Marie

GREAT NEWS!!!!The Hewko case was decided today!

B.C. Supreme Court Justice Koenigsberg decided that the Abbotsford School Board breached their statutory duty to consult.
Her complete reasons for judgement will be released just prior to Oct. 10, 2006. We will post her judgement and our analysis once they've been made public.

    GREAT NEWS!!!!!

    Hello Everyone

-My family is moving to Vancouver, my son is 7 years old, could anyone give me some info on schools in the lower mainland or North/west van that they have had success with and are open to having kids with Autism?

-We currently live in Whistler and have a great little program going. I will move into any area that does not have a current wait list for SEA's.

    Thanks for this

    Hi
I am trying to contact and obtain further information regarding 2 previous posts. One was posted by J Travers regarding a meeting to discuss an "alternative school" and the second post was by C Gerlach regarding Janis Acadamy. If you could email me at ccooper@dccnet.com it would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Catherine
