In this discussion area, please feel free to share your experience in implementing A.B.A. programs in the school system. We would particularly like to hear from those parents who converted their school teams to A.B.A. We’d like to hear the nightmares as well as the success stories.
Any insight that can be shared by school-based special education assistants to help parents would also be very meaningful.

As our son enters kindergarten at FORT LANGLEY ELEMENTARY (8877 Bartlett St, Langley), we would love to connect with any existing ASD (or other SN) families currently attending his future school, or LANGLEY FINE ARTS SCHOOL (9096 Trattle Street, Langley). We'd also love to meet families in the WALNUT GROVE & WILLOUGHBY areas.
We feel that would be wonderful to not only connect with some of our neighbours, but also to build a support community/ "village" within in our little pocket of the GVRD!
Please contact us at: christine.long@live.com
Thanks so much!

May 5, 2014 at 4:13 pm #3632Jaswant SinghParticipantHello,
I am in need of some help and guidance. My son is in grade 6 this year and will be in grade 7 next fall. He is attending a public elementary school in Vancouver and has an ABA support worker. He is making good progress but is clearly still behind his peers developmentally speaking. I strongly feel that he would benefit greatly by repeating a year of elementary school.
Would someone be kind enough to share with me what our options are in this respect? Initial feedback from the school is that children move through the grades in an age appropriate manner. In other words, physical age trumps child developmental and educational needs. I am confused by this.
It would be sincerely appreciated if someone can help me out with some feedback on possible options I can take and what my sons rights are. Thank you so very much! My email address is: cdranu@yahoo.com
Sincerely,
JaswantMay 2, 2014 at 7:02 pm #3633Dione CostanzoParticipantHi everyone

This is a supervised position via monthly overlaps from a BCBA. The primary focus will be academic support (of grade level curriculum), as well as teaching social skills.
The position would begin in September, but candidate must be able to participate with the home team during the summer.
If interested, please email your resume to: gkhanansho@yahoo.caMarch 23, 2014 at 7:19 pm #3636Denise UreMemberLooking for an ABA SW for South Surrey High School for Sept/14.
We are looking for an ABA SW to continue with our sons programming at a South Surrey high school in September, 2014. He will be entering Grade 10. The Bases program at his high school is a highly supportive environment for ABA SWs to work in. Our consultant, Sarah Pastrana, works with the Bases classroom teacher to develop the school programming, which is reflected in his IEP. Sarah is available and provides regularly scheduled, ongoing support during the school year. Our son has made tremendous progress over the past three years with his current ABA SW and we are really excited to see this continue.
Our son is a smart, funny and compliant young man. He has a great behaviour program in place which has been very successful.
Applicants require 1,000 supervised ABA hours and need to have completed or be enrolled in the Surrey College ABA SW program by September. Also, we would like to be able to start some training at his school in May/ June so some overlap sessions could be done with his current ABA SW.
Please email Denise at denure@telus.net or call 604-542-9608 if you need any further information. -
