The South Fraser ASBC group presentation on PEER PLAY will stay on Thursday, Nov 17, 7-9pm as scheduled. We have had a good response for this date. There is still lots of room, so RSVP at wiklo@shaw.ca if you haven't already done so.
Topics will include:
· Why is peer play important?
· What skills should a child have to start peer play?
· How do we get started? (i.e. Which peer is right? How do we find peers? What materials do we need?)
· How do we choose peer play goals?
· What role should the therapist play?
· How do we monitor progress?Presentation by Buffy Paul and Margot Squire, EAP Behaviour Consultants
Donations are greatly accepted.

South SurreyNancy WaltonParticipantThe South Fraser ASBC group is scheduled to have a meeting on Thursday Nov 17, 7-9pm. The talk is on Peer Play, presented by Margot and Buffy of the Ealy Autism Project.
I am hoping that attending the Nov 17th rally at the Vancouver library and then later attending the ASBC South Fraser meeting will be achievable. Please contact me at wiklo@shaw.ca to let me know if you will be able to attend the South Fraser meeting. If there is insufficient reservations we may postpone the meeting.
Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

wiklo@shaw.caNancy WaltonParticipantFun loving therapist needed in White Rock for a mid-functioning 7 year old boy. At least one morning weekend shift and one other shift (weekend or during the week). Meetings are Tuesday afternoons. Piano experience an asset.
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in working with our consultant Sharon Baxter, or learning the CABAS system of ABA. You would also enjoy working with a very strong, talented and devoted team.
Please e-mail your resume to wiklo@shaw.ca or call Nancy at 604-538-8021
Nancy WaltonParticipantSouth Fraser ASBC meeting has been moved up to Thursday October 13. That's this Thursday!! And it is an important presentation for all parents of children 0 – 17 years.
Sharon Baxter will be presenting in the first hour on how to write effective IEP's. Sharon is an ABA consultant who has three years experience of writing IEP's for children in our BC school system. She will provide us with good examples and bad examples of IEP goals to help us understand important components.
In the second hour, I, Nancy Walton, will talk about how to advocate for your child so that you may some day realize an ideal situation for your child in a Public BC school. I will also update parents on the progress that has been made at the provincial level and at school board levels.
If you missed the North Shore September meeting on education OR if you found you had an appetitite for even more information, this is an excellent opportunity for you.
Please e-mail me at wiklo@shaw.ca if you plan to come or call 604-538-8021
Donations are greatfully accepted to pay for coffee/tea and treats.
The South Fraser meetings are 7-9pm, at the Semiahmoo House Society, 15306 24th Ave, South Surrey.

Nancy WaltonParticipantNow is a good time to put a plug in for the Autism Society of BC web site that also has a chat board. On this chat board, you may discuss anything that has to do with autism.
The feat chat board is limited to discussion on science based treatments for autism. It is a good place to ask questions, just in case there is some peer reviewed science out there that deals with the question. At the moment, only ABA has peer reviewed studies of efficacy and as for causes, the jury is still out on the many possible causes.
So, in order to not "water down" discussion on ABA treatment, please continue discussion on other topics at the ASBC chat. (Just say, "I'll meet you on the ASBC chat to continue").
While you have to join ASBC in order to get on their chat, the chat is otherwise free. Just type in "autismbc" in google and it will take you there.

Is there anyone driving out on Tuesday to the North Shore meeting from the White Rock area who could give me a ride??
By the way, this is a good meeting to go to for anyone with a child from age 2 to 18. So, even if you have a youngster, it is never too early to start getting information on how to get the most for your child in the school system.
Please e-mail me at wiklo@shaw.ca or call 604-538-8021 if you can help me out. We only have one car.
Thanks
Nancy Walton
