{Hello FEAT Autism Tutors and Therapists}
We are currently looking for a new lead therapist for our team, located in central Vancouver (Cambie and 22nd Avenue.)
Our fourteen year old daughter is high functioning, verbal, gentle, affectionate, and entertaining. Her therapy is fascinating, and her program is varied. She has just started high-school and has been doing ABA therapy for twelve years. We work under the guidance of Kim Kirsch and the Early Autism Project, hence, it is a home-based ABA program supervised by a well-respected BCBA.
For this position, previous experience with ABA programs is a must and previous lead experience would be swell, but as long as you seem bright, caring, and capable, we are interested. A criminal record check will be obligator and initial training will be provided along with follow up sessions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: running sessions on your own, preparing for team meetings once a month, overlapping with our consultant, providing reports to the consultant, working on scheduling, and overlapping therapists. You will also need to give feedback to our current therapist and ourselves, train new therapists, oversee data recorded, probe new targets, and coach the team.
You would be picking our daughter up from her after school bus-drop-off, recording data, helping with home living skills, and working with her on her fine and gross motor challenges.
Our team meetings are currently held once a month on a Wednesday evening from 5:00-6:30 and youd have three sessions a week: from 3:30ish to 6:00. We also ask that you are able to commit to the team for at least one year.
You should please be FUN, responsible, dedicated, and creative. You need to have strong play skills, a positive attitude, and lots of energy and patience. You are a good multi-tasker, are organized, encouraging, enthusiastic, and responsible. You need to be able to take constructive feedback and implement it immediately. Salary will be negotiable based on your experience and your performance.
If you are interested, please send a short cover letter and your resume to: cathy.fitzhugh@gmail.com
We look forward to hearing from you, and thanks.

Hi Featers…. Starting our daughter off at the Lifeskills program at Eric Hamber has been a total disaster. It's been beyond a total disaster, in fact. The situation is getting progressively worse and I'm very worried.
I've got a meeting on Monday at the school board (with Eleanor Cramb) to discuss other program and placement options but really feel as if I need to go in armed with a very clear idea of BC Special Education policies and… my legal rights.
I also am doing much of this on my own, need support and am wondering how I can find a social worker that might be able to help. And/or, I need to get in touch with other agencies that could help steer and educate. .Any idea or suggestions?
Please feel free to email me at:
cathy.fitzhugh@gmail.comThanks Very Much, In Advance

Cathy FitzhughParticipant{Dear FEATBC Folks}
I'm the parent of a 13 year old daughter on the spectrum. She's relatively bright, but unfortunately has some limiting fine and gross motor challenges. We live in Vancouver where she has just started high school: at Eric Hamber in an upper-level Lifeskills program.
Although I have not yet spoken directly with anyone at the VSB (I am currently waiting for a response,) its become apparent that she needs more physical support than they want to provide and are therefore considering dropping her into a lower Lifeskills program at another school. We are not against making a change, but are concerned that in a lower level, her intellectual needs will not be met.
What we need then is guidance with:
A) Fighting to get her the help she needs in order to stay in the program that's more appropriate for her.
B) Looking for alternative programs (be they private, or in other schools districts) in the lower mainland.
All advice is welcome.
Please feel free to email me at: cathy.fitzhugh@gmail.comMuch gratitude, in advance.

The Hamber URL is here:

How are you all? Hoping you could help-out and give me some transitioning to High School in Vancouver advice. Our daughter is starting at Eric Hamber in the Lifeskills program next week and we haven't gotten ANY information about ANYTHING yet.
I know that the man who has run the program for the past 20 years, Ken Spence, has left the position and I have no idea who is now in charge of it. (I also wasn't thrilled with the attitude of the staff there when we visited last year.) I was told that our daughter could not take French or Drama, and… that there is NO contact, at all with the mainstream population. I find all of these extremely unsettling.
So… I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with these issues, if you had any success in moving things along, and, in the worst case, if the whole thing stinks, I'm hoping to find out what our other options might be. I know this is a lot of varied issues, but thought it wise to dump it all here in case there were folks who could help.
Please email me at: cathy.fitzhugh@gmail.com
Thanks, so much, in advance.
