Re: Future Focus for FEATBC
It has been 12 years since the establishment of FEATBC. During this time we have achieved many goals and fulfilled MUCH of our mission. It is now time to look at the future and decide in which direction FEAT BC needs to go. If you would like to be an active part of FEATBC's future, please e-mail me at skfreeman@featbc.org
Sincerely,Sabrina

This is a quick reminder for the group, in view of the recent exchange in the Government Topics room.
Although a spirited debate of ideas related to medically necessary autism treatment is always welcome in this space, personal attacks are not; it is imperative that members of the group respect the rule that personal attacks against other members of the discussion forum are impermissible.
I would encourage everyone to carefully review their prospective posts in the preview window (i.e., please take a breath, have a thoughtful second look) prior to hitting the submit button. Make sure the message is about issues, and not a post that may be interpreted as a personal rant/vent against any member of the group.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining the quality of the FEAT-BC discussion forum.
Board Admin.

They will be discussing the important successes achieved for parents with an autistic child[ren] as a result of the recent BC Supreme Court decision in the Hewko case.
Jean will also be discussing her upcoming trip to Ottawa, together with Roxanne and Jenn, to mark the second anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada's mis-guided and eye-opening decision in the Auton case.
I hope you will be able to tune-in to the program. If not, you can listen to it later by going to the CKNW audio-vault on the InterNet.
Thank you Jean.
FEAT BC AdminKeymasterThis is posted on behalf of a FEATBC parent member:
In regards to Alexei's question-
You might use this web-site to get your starting info on advocacy: http://www.bccpac.bc.ca/publications/resources2.htm#1 There is an excellent brochure called "Speaking up!" which is a parent guide to advocating for students in public schools.If you look at http://www.knowyourrights.ca/knowyourrights/guardians_special_ed.html you can see there are three different levels of bureaucracy who manage Special Education:
– the Ministry of Education, including the Ministry's Special Education Branch ( read the most important facts from their Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines at http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/specialed/ppandg/toc.htm );
– your locally elected school board and senior school district management officials;
– your child's Principal and the school based team.
Don't forget to write to your MLA and keep him/her updated about your child's situation.
