Re: Linda Reid Address at Centre for Ability
In her address Hon L. Reid said that families with children with autism were receiving between $1500 – $2500/month in Individualized Funding. She also said funding was based on "proximity" or "remoteness".
Is there anyone out there on the top end of the fee structure who would care to share the details?
thanks,

Deleted UserMemberI am wondering if anyone has been successful in having a SEA "provided" for the K+ program. Our son has made great gains conversationally and socially and really wants to attend K+ 3 days a week with his buddies. 19/23 attend the program and we have noticed quite a difference socially between those who "do" and those who "don't" attend the extended day and are afraid of the social divide becoming ever-larger. We have been told by the school that the cost of the aide is $800/month plus the school program fee of $280/month and feel that this is completely outrageous and blocks entry to an extension program offered at a public school. Any help or information from anyone who has navigated this terrain before would be most appreciated.
thanks,
Tamara

The C'sDeleted UserMemberHello,
I am a new person to f.e.a.t, I have a variety of experience in working with developmentally delayed individuals including autism, I am curious to know what exactly a line and senior therapist duties would include ie. what their role would be w/ the child and family?
thank you for any replies recieved and I am glad to become part of this organizationDeleted UserMemberAnon so that I don't offend the govt. worker.
I had a "consultant" from the govt who was overseeing our supported child care aide. She wanted to come to watch my child and I also invited her to workshops.
I started to realize that she wasn't coming to learn about my child so much as she was coming to learn how to do this so that she could be an "ABA consultant".
A person who is not properly trained in ABA as a consultant can do more damage than good. This, by the way, is why some feat members do not answer questions about how to deal with behavior issues…we feel this is unethical, since a proper consultant should be assessing the situation before giving advice. Each child/person is different and requires the expertise of a qualified consultant.
Social workers are probably not a worry. But careful about having your "preschool consultant" come into the sessions.

Deleted UserMemberHi Franca,
I have not met Nathan Ory but have heard tons of excellent stuff about him from various behaviour consultants and from parents as well. I am attending this workshop and am so excited about it. I have two daughters with asd both of whom have repetitive picking behaviours which I hear Nathan is very skilled in working with. Plus a copy of his book is included in the fee. Hope this helps.Cheryl
mom to Allie and AngelDeleted UserMemberHello there,
on October 5th Nathan Ory, M.A. will be giving a day-long workshop at the University of Victoria on "Autistic Thinking and Autistic Logic." Has anyone heard of him? I am interested to know because my daughter's teaching assistant is planning to attend this workshop. I would also like to attend (as we don't get much of "substance" in the capital but government financial debates)so I would like to be informed if Mr. Ory has been or is involved with any service providers or other agencies and in which capacity. The promotional brochure gives some information about Mr. Ory's background; however, I would like to get more updated information.I'd appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
Franca
francapastro@shaw.caDeleted UserMemberTo Michelle Karen,
RE; my previous anon post..working with adults…Just to clarify, my questions were about ABA, or where I would find more info on topics discussed. I wanted the info, as I explained in my posts, to understand how a person I was working with may be better able to learn some skills she was having difficulty with. I thought , also mentioned in my post, that the way I was attempting to teach these skills may be the problem. The little knowledge I have of ABA shows how a person with Autism learns differently.. so my changing how I was teaching may have helped her undersand it and proved successful for her…. again just to clarify.
ThanksDeleted UserMemberHi Amy and Johnathan,
