T. ChiaoParticipant
We attended tonight's ABA Support Network workshop "The Birds and the Bees and ASD". It was a wealth of information and an excellent opportunity to meet other ASD families. Our son is only 2.5 years old and non-verbal, so we have some time yet before we'll need to have this talk with him. However, we valued the opportunity to hear from other parents who are at this stage.
Kathryn Theroux was a dynamic speaker and we were impressed with her ability to present such a taboo topic in an open and encouraging way.
Thank you to Louise, Nancy, Dione and Elaine for welcoming us as new members to this community and encouraging us to attend our first ABA SN event tonight. We're already looking forward to joining the next meeting.

T. ChiaoParticipantThanks, Joanne, for teaching and emphasizing the importance of education and advocacy to us new autism parents. I look forward to meeting you soon!
T. ChiaoParticipantDear Joanna,
Thanks for your thoughtful message. And thank you for being the only person that reminded me to post my email address when I requested feedback on consultants. So appreciated. If it weren't for you, I'd still be waiting for responses. After your prompt, I received 45+ emails from parents sharing valuable feedback and personal experiences. I now feel confident about the consultant we've chosen.
Us new FEATers have a lot to learn and we are grateful to be learning from the best — those who have already walked the long road ahead of us.
Tina
T. ChiaoParticipantDearest Franca, Barb and Dave,
Thank you for your notes of encouragement. All of you have provided amazing support. You are wonderful Moms and Dads and I strive to give my son the support that you gave your children. You give us hope and determination to continue strong on this long journey.
Much gratitude,
TinaT. ChiaoParticipantDear Piyo,
Thanks for writing. Us new FEATers have the utmost respect for parents like you who have fought so hard and patiently for your kids…and the 'new kids on the team', our kids.Thank you very much.
T. ChiaoParticipantDear Tanja,
My heart goes out to you. I'm new to this community as well.I'm sorry that I don't have any helpful advice about your son's feeding issues. Your situation really opens my eyes to the real need of support for our children (and adults) with autism.
I hope you receive some helpful tips from other parents as I'm sure other families have had similar issues. This board has been an amazing resource for me. The compassion and support from other parents has been overwhelming.
Again, I'm sorry I can't be of any help. I just want to encourage you and tell you that you're an incredible Mother. I could feel your desperation when I read your post and you deserve to have things get better.
I have a 2.5 yr old son with autism and I also have a 6 mos old baby. If you ever just want to talk, please contact me.
