I am posting this on behalf of a friend who is interested in switching her child from a 'Son-Rise' program to an ABA program. She has been doing the 'Son-Rise' method – (options institute)
program for about 18 months. Before she decides to make the switch she would like to know if there are any other families who have been in a similar situation. How did the child cope with the change from one program to another? Was it a positive experience for the child? Did the child benefit and grow with ABA? How did the family react to the new program? She feels her child would benefit from a more structured environment but wants to hear from others who have made the switch. She does not have personal email so please post to the feat board.Thank you.

According to their website http://www.smartsociety.bc.ca
I was disgusted to see that the Ministry for Children and Families has giving them a grant to fund their programs. The programs they provide are: 'horseback riding therapy,"swimming therapy",gymnastics therapy", non of which have scientific data or .
This government has to be held accountable for the lack of intelligible decisions they continue to make every day, while jepordizing the well being and health of our children.
This is and insult for us as parents, for our children and for the Judiciary System who has already ruled in two occations that the government has to pay for medically necessary treatment (ABA),for our children regarless of their age.
While I applaud the parents for coming together and putting this organization together. I don't agree with the therapies they do, as this therapies only have anecdotal data .It is a free country and the parents can do whatever they want.
The government on the other hand needs to obey the law, and stop wasting our children's money and time.

April 4, 2003 at 6:30 pm #1253Deleted UserMemberRe; DMG, B6, etc.
there are a lot of supplements advertised by people/groups that are supposed to be helpful to autistic children. As with anyone, supplements may improve the health of autistic children if they are needed (emphasis on if). Too often this is being touted as 'treatment' for autism. It is not. Vitamins/supplements can improve the health of your child if this is an issue. behavioural improvement could take place if the result is that your child is feeling better. We saw improved behaviour with our child when we removed foods that were contributing to gastrointestinal distress. Again the catalyst for better behaviour was that our child felt better and was in less pain. We have since been able to reintroduce those foods on a moderated basis without negative results. If you feel supplements may help your child, bring it up with your Doctor and ask for a refferal to a nutritionist. Get expert assessment and advice based on medical science. Shooting in the dark with using random supplements because they are supposed to work won't bring any miracles. Working at optomizing your childs health will likely allow your child to benefit better from any therapies or services you bring to bear to address autism.April 4, 2003 at 5:22 pm #1252Deleted UserMemberHi everyone,
Does anyone know or have used DMG?
Did you have any success with it? Was there any side effects? Is B6 and Magnesium any better or work at all? I have read Dr. Rimlands info on it and watched his interview on the internet, but I don't know how old this information is.
What is in DMG? I don't want to give anything to my child without understanding this…
Thanks for any info you can give me.March 29, 2003 at 6:58 pm #1251Mike & JeanParticipantSubject: Dr. Richard Foxx May 2, 2003 Vancouver

The workshop will be presented by Richard Foxx. For more information go to http://www.arbutuscoast.comMarch 26, 2003 at 7:22 pm #1248Deleted UserMemberRe: The Richard Foxx Workshop Link
Often, a 'Shaw" screen comes up when clicking on the link, or a bunch of information is displayed regarding workshops by individuals other than Richard Foxx. Is the workshop going to be presented by Richard Foxx? If so, is there a more efficient way to obtain the workshop information/registration? Thanks. -
