February 26, 2019 at 3:15 pm #23469bsharpeKeymasterHello everyone,
Here is the latest edition of the Science in Autism Treatment -ASAT- newsletter. This month’s free ASAT Newsletter is very important for anyone who knows someone with autism because it focuses on taking the child/person to the dentist (which is a nightmare without sufficient preparation). If you know someone who would benefit, please share with them directly and if you have a Facebook page, please share. This information will help many parents and their children. In addition, every dentist would be wise to read this issue.
You can find this edition at: newsletter@asatonline.org

August 31, 2018 at 2:40 pm #23315Stella LiParticipantHi everyone,
How’s your summer? After the long weekend students will be going back to school. Are you ready?
September could be stressful for students and parents affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. It’s a month of transitions with many unknowns and new things to learn and to adapt to. How can parents work with the school so that our children will have a successful school year? For those who are new to autism, what is Individual Education Plan (IEP) and how does it work?? What can we do to prepare for IEP meeting? What to expect, how to follow up…and the list goes on! Last year, many of you consulted our speaker Bohdanna with lots of questions after her engaging and informative presentation. We are happy to have Bohdanna back to further explore the topic of IEP and school issues.
Autism BC Burnaby Community Support Group Proudly presents:
“IEPs throughout the years and beyond!” by Bohdanna Popowycz, M.Ed., BCBA

Time: 10am-12noon (door opens at 9:45)
Place: Studio, #301 – 3701 East Hastings, Burnaby
Topic:
Developing a realistic and useful IEP from Pre-K to Secondary years
How an IEP grows ‘with’ the child
When and how to include a youth with ASD into their IEP meetings
Transitional IEP’s from middle school to secondary schools
Data: it’s what drives us, how to help schools feel comfortable with it!And more…
Speaker:
Bohdanna Popowycz M.Ed, BCBA has been involved with individuals on the autism spectrum (from toddlers to adults) since the early 90’s. Her background and education, specifically in autism, started in the States under the supervision, guidance and training at a Lovaas Replication Site. This allowed Bohdanna the honour and privilege to move to different lands and learn from various professionals in the field. She and her family moved to British Columbia in 2001 where she began building relationships with schools in the Lower Mainland. She had been involved in the inception of the ABASW program in Surrey, and currently works closely with school districts across the Lower Mainland (e.g. life and practical skills coordinator/consultant with a local school) and in the States. One of her current passions is working together with a family and all stakeholders to build a solid IEP, in which functional and useful transitions can be made for the betterment of a youth’s life as they learn and grow towards adulthood.
Coffee/tea, light refreshments, and handouts will be provided.

August 7, 2018 at 1:14 am #23282Stella LiParticipantPosted on behalf of Linda Cucek, a long time autism advocate and mother of two. Please support “Outbound” which was directed and filmed by her son.
Introducing “Outbound” a 30-minute epic science fiction short film, unique in that it mainly stars a cast who live with developmental disabilities of Autism. After a year of filming the film has finally been completed, but here is where your help is needed:
It was always a dream of the majority of those involved that the film is shown on big screen in a movie theatre. This dream is now almost a reality all that is left is raising the cost of the fee to show the movie at Cineplex SilverCity in Mission, BC. In return for the community support, admission will be donated to Autism Speaks Canada…..please check out this URL address:
