Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know or ever heard of a group becoming a society that provides ABA support to children? We are a little group of parents that are thinking about trying to do this. Our goal is to become a society and access foundations like Variety Club, etc. We're not even sure how to begin or if this is even feasible. Our family has been doing private ABA with a Consultant from CAlgary since 1998, and split the airfare/accomodations with another family. But we have families that want to do ABA but can't afford to. Any help would be appreciated. Please email s_henke@hotmail.com.

Hi all,Just responding to the lady who was using vitamin therapy so others wouldn't have to. Please read a copy of the New York Report on
the Best Practices for Children with Autism. It costs about 30.00 and it's much cheaper than vitamin therapy. You can get it from Kids
Tools 722-8543. Also the people that recommend WEAP would probably not recommend vitamin therapy.Parents! Please Please Please let's get informed and ask a ton of questions before we try different questionable therapies. Everyone
and their dog has a solution, treatment or therapy, but until it's proven to be effective the money could be used towards one's that are
proven, effective ones.
I'm teachable and if anyone has info that vitamin therapy is scientifically proven to be effective I'm in! But until then……Glad to be on board!

February 28, 2001 at 4:46 am #5863Joan TomilinMemberGood-evening,
I was on my way to work one morning when I heard Jean Lewis on a radio talk show,CBC Daybreak. She was absolutely wonderful as she spoke on behalf of the children diagnosed with autism in this province. Thank goodness for strong, courageous people like Jean. I had the opportunity to have a phone discussion with her, and she suggested we contact WEAP to discuss our 5 year old daughter's current program. She is high-functioning and is progressing quite rapidly. Due to the lack of resources in our community, we basically self-taught ourselves the ABA program and started to work with our little girl since she was 2 years old. She is such a beautiful, gentle child, and my husband and I will not give up as we look for every opportunity available to help her. We have contacted WEAP to look into having a consultant assess our little girl's current program. Is there some success stories out there with using consultants from WEAP? I have heard many positive comments on their program and would greatly appreciate some feedback. Also, we just started our little one on vitamin therapy, Vit B6/Mangnesium, and DMG. We ordered the vitamins through Kirkman Laboratories, USA. They are so helpful and knowledgeable. Has any other family had any positive results from vitamin therapy they would like to share with us.Thank-you so very much,

February 8, 2001 at 11:34 pm #5860Sheila HotraMemberHi, I was wondering what people have found successful in getting/helping your child to speak. We have a aba program up and running, but don't seem to be getting very far with his speech. Obviously there has been improvement, but my son is turning 5 this year, and he has no words whatsoever, and this is scaring me. I have heard that it is harder to get children to speak after the age of 6 or 7?? You can e-mail me at shotra@home.com Thanks for your time, Sheila
