I have had ANCA do a presentation a few years ago to an ASBC community group. They believe that the autistic individual doesn't need to be treated…..

Thank you for answering, Laurie. It is best to have some background ideas when attending a new group for the first time. I'm going to the ANCA conference at Robson Sq because simple ABA is not likely to help me much; there is no funding for pensioners to take it that I know of, for a start, and it may not be the most effective method for me. Many kids do well with ABA and I'm still a kid; I'll have to try a session adjusted for age, one day, to see how it goes and where it fits in with other therapies.

I didn't see the other replies that Elna got so I don't have any real reason not to attend…

I have had ANCA do a presentation a few years ago to an ASBC community group. They believe that the autistic individual doesn't need to be treated. They think that others should just "get over" their prejudices and let 15 year olds have temper tantrums in malls. Needless to say I never had them back again.

Untreated, autism will never be understood! It's incredibly sad to see.

    HI all
Thanks for the speedy replies. I had an inkling that they weren't pro ABA since their web address says Naturally Autistic.
I love working with children with autism and love implementing ABA! It's wonderful when I see these children learn to talk and converse and play and behave appropriately at school and at the park and in their community!
I have worked with several respected and wonderful consultants here in Vancouver and thank them tremendously on all their wisdom and dedication to helping all children with autism!!!

I looked quickly at the site and flyer for the video conference. Temple has a PhD and works in animal husbandry. I don't believe that instructing or consulting in Autism Treatment is her main income. She has recovered from autism herself and may have useful hints for all of us, she has written books about it; though she 'Lives in a world of pictures,' which is 'Some of us; but not all of us.'

I believe that I shall go, part of my world is pictures. I seem to remember that there is much more about her at the Autism Research Institute: perhaps in the link to the group in Oregon ? Yep <http://www.autism.org/> Just off to W Van library now but did check the link. It does seem worth my while to go to see what part of her skills are transferrable — but don't let me persuade you without thinking it over.

    Hi everyone!
I have a quick question regarding some organization i came across. I'm a bit hesitant to "associate" with them as their web address is "naturallyautistic.com"
Someone emailed me a link to a presentation this month. Temple Grandin will do some video presentation on autism. I am interested (since Temple was on the David Suzuki video promoting early intervention)but am not sure if they are "pro ABA" or not.
The organization is ANCA and apparently made up of "autistics" as they refer to themselves.
Just a side note on myself: My name is Elna and have been doing ABA for over 6 years so I'm new to this board :-)
Any feedback on this organization would be great. You can email me privately: elna4@yahoo.com
    Thanks

We are trying to find the behaviour consultant for our daughter. But unfortunately it
seems very hard to evaluate them. Her weak areas are communication and socialization. This board is heaven for parents like us. Can you suggest us some names whose plans are effective for kids having language delays. Any help will be appreciated. Please reply at metroortem@aol.com

If you have any signatures on the original petition (for healthcare and getting a university chair), just keep them until the election is over. As soon as you know who your new (or old) MP is, you can bring them in to him or her. We want to keep this in the spot light on a daily basis as soon as parliament is back in session.

Remember, these petitions can be downloaded at canadaautism.com
