Understanding Your Child's ABA Team : Members, Training Requirements, and Responsibilities

Creekside Community Centre, 1 Athlete's Way, Vancouver (Olympic Village)The Autism Support Network will be hosting a great presentation by Angie Ho, M.Ed, Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) with SBAI.
SBAI is an associate group created to provide supervision to behaviour analysts and behaviour analysts in training from Semiahmoo Behaviour Analysts Inc. (SBAI).
Angie primarily works as a behaviour consultant with children with ASD and their families in home and school settings. Her interests include providing support and training to parents, behaviour interventionists, and school support workers.
This presentation will include information and discussion around team members, training requirements and responsibilities. Whether you are starting a new team or have years of experience with an established team this presentation is for you!

Behaviour interventionists required to work with a good natured 19 year old male with autism. Experience with special needs individuals is helpful but not required. Pay is commensurate with experience and training will be provided under the supervision of Julee Bassetto, M.Ed, BCBA.
Sessions will take place in our home in West Vancouver, near Caulfield Shopping Center. Programs focus mainly on functional communication, life skills, and leisure activities both in home and in the community. These positions will appeal particularly to people with an interest in education, special education, psychology, clinical therapy, and community support.
Applicant must:
– Be responsible, energetic, enthusiast, and reliable.
– Can work well independently and as a team member.
– Be at least 19 years old.
– Willing to commit for at least 1 year, with potential to remain permanently.
– Willing to consent/provide to a criminal record check for vulnerable adults.
– Have their own vehicle and valid class 5 drivers license.

The session will be comprised of 3 sections. Nate Searle MSc BCBA will present on Autism, Anxiety and its implications in treatment. Nate will also discuss aspects of wearable technology and its implications in the treatment of anxiety for students with autism. This will be an opportunity to meet the team at Awake Labs who is building Reveal, learn more about the wearable and app and how they will work. The team will also discuss their current crowdfunding campaign, next steps and ways you can get involved in the process.
This is a free event, however, space is limited to 100 guests.

This presentation has been created by Louise Witt (Parent and Director of the ASN) in collaboration with Kayla Ragosin-Miller (Dental Hygienist at BC Children's Hospital). Kayla started the Dental Desensitization program at Children's and Louise's son Jack has participated in the program alongside his home ABA program.
This presentation will outline some steps that allow children with ASD to be successful not only going to the dentist but a variety of activities like going for a haircut, to a restaurant etc.
Children with ASD deserve access to great oral care and it can be done!

About Kayla Ragosin-Miller:
Kayla Ragosin-Miller is a dental hygiene graduate from the University of Manitoba. She works in private practice, is a part time instructor and is the hygienist at BC Childrens Hospital. Through her studies in the field of Autism Intervention and behaviour modification Kayla has developed the Dental Intervention Program for children with Autism and related disorders at BC Childrens Hospital. She has been delivering workshops on how compliance for routine dental procedures can be achieved for this clientele. Last August she was the recipient of "The Dental Hygienist Makes a Difference" award from the British Columbia Dental Hygienists Association for her intervention program. We are looking for the right candidate to work with our 10 year old son on the Autism Spectrum (high functioning) as his full time aide in the private school he attends in Richmond. The right candidate would ideally have experience working with children with Autism over the age of 10 and have some ABA experience. The focus of support is around social skill development, self-regulation and implementation of behaviour support strategies. Experience working in a school is an asset, as is a strong sense of humour and a willingness to work as part of a team. Extensive training will be provided.
The position is 7 hours per day 5 days per week for a total of 35 hours. This is a salaried position with a competitive rate of pay and the option of a benefits package. The position would be set to commence in September 2016.
