I think it is important to point out that visits to restaurants and long plane trips can be success stories when our children have ABA therapy.

I remember feeling horrible after a restaurant incident where my son screamed through most of the meal. The restaurant could have lost all their customers, but they let us be. After that, I vowed to target restaurants in ABA style. I remember bringing him to a restaurant to have a light lunch, worried sick that he would start tantrumming. At the end of our little meal, the lady behind me got out of her seat and said to me what a sweet little boy I had. I just about burst into tears. She had no idea how much that meant to me.

As for the plane trips, one lady in front of us was clearly showing her annoyance at my sons constant movement, but when I told her he was autistic, she apologized profusely and assured me he could do what ever he liked. I now tell people right away and they seem very sympathetic and understanding. I'm sure I was very lucky, but also, my son's behavior is not all that bad thanks to years of ABA therapy.

How about we do some "giving" at the South Surrey ASBC meeting this Thursday. I have two pairs of ski pants and a coat, and two pairs of pajamas (all size 7ish). I'll bring them Thursday.

    Hi Kim,

We are not supposed to post wages on feat, so you may not get an answer for this on the chat. You can give your e-mail address and people can respond privately to you.

In my 8 years of experience hiring ABA therapists, I must say that it is definitely getting harder because there is such a high demand for employees now. The more "help wanted" signs you see in stores, the harder it is for us to attract therapists to this field.

If you do not have any special requests (can play piano, has sign language, can teach skiing…) then you can probably offer what ever the local stores are offering for unskilled work. Also, if you hire a student, you can pay almost min wage, and you can keep them longer.

Most important is that you have a good place to work. That your therapists feel appreciated and supported. That is the best way to keep people if you are not paying them a lot.

    Regarding Tax stuff,

I am certain I sent in one or two stubs from MCFD payments (and said the monthly payments are the same) and photocopies of receipts of payments from the therapists. There was no problem with this.

I am starting to change how I do my taxes. I claim everything, then take off autism funding and supported child care funding and net claim what is left. I claim it first as child care (since I work) and claim what is left as medical. By the way, make sure you use the word "tutor" not "therapist" when doing the medical part. Save you lots of stress with RC.

    Your chance for excellent experience:

Therapist needed in WHITE ROCK, for delightful, humourous 9 year old boy. Our consultant is Sharon Baxter. You must be fun, smart and have a car. We need someone to work one shift Sunday afternoon and one or two weekday shifts (afternoons or evenings). Our son likes to play piano, swim, skateboard, ski, ride a bike (at a mountain bike park), but also does that regular academic and peer play stuff, all through ABA therapy.
