LOOKING FOR ABA CONSULTANT:
Hi All,
I've just known that Lisa Winz will not be helping BC families. I am one of hers. My 6 year old child has been with her for 2.5 yrs. Now it's time to look for another consultant. I would like to get some advice from you all. Since the fund is cut to only $500/month, I can not afford to pay a very high price. I am wondering how other families in the same or similar situation are doing? I've heard of the consultant from
ABLE Clinic
EAP
Michele Shilvock and
Sharon Baxtor
I'd like to get an idea how they do with ABA program and approximately how many hours are needed for the program.
Your opinions are very important to me. Thank you very much in advance.
Please post on FEAT or email me at tnkaccount@yahoo.com
Trinh (Tina)TinaMemberHi All, I need your advice!!!!
My 6 yr-old autistic son enrolled Kindergarten in East Vancouver last September and he has serverly speech and language delay. I've been asking the school for an SLP since he has that needs and also had the report from his previous SLP (from Ever Green) saying so. I talked to the principle several times and she was really mean. End of this January, she promised to let me know when my child would get that service in 2 weeks. I had waited for 3 weeks and hadn't heard from her . I called her yesterday and she said she had no idea when my son would get that service. She said she would be using the fund from the school board to hire an SLP , and didn't know when that would be done; she also said after she hired the SLP, my son would later be considered ( BY HER ) if he would eligible for that service or not, and if she thought he wasn't qualify, he would not get any SLP service. I said it seemed to me that it would take for ever to get this service. She was very rude:"Yes, it will take forever, and if you want more services, you can go to get the private SLP". She told me to go and get private SLP even though she knew that I have financial problem, running ABA at home, facing the cut of the funding. I also asked her what if once my son got the service, if he needed to start to wait again in the next school year. She said: " Don't worry about him in grade one or you'll be crazy".I just couldn't beleive a principal could tell a parent those ridiculous words, not to worry about your child in the near future.I am exhausted dealing with this principle who is new to this school and am wonedering how she got her job in the education system. I will make a complaint against her and I am very unfamiliar to this.If you have any ideas how to the school system works or how to deal with this very unprofressional person.Would you please share with me. It will be greatly appreciated.

TinaTinaMemberHelp…
I had a really bad day today and really need some advice from you if you've ever been in this situation. I took my autistic boy to a birthday party which was invited by his classmate. The people there didn't know he has autism as I don't want to and my son looks okay and has very less behavior. But he drove me cazy today . The party just started a couple minutes and two of the balloons there popped. He startled when the 1st one popped. The second one popped in a minute later and he started to run away.I tried whatever I could to calm him down but nothing could help ( I even took him for a walk and returned to the house later , he was still scared of the ballloons there). We ended up leaving the party and every one was left surprised when I explained to them that he was afraid of the sounds of the popped balloons. I came home and blew up some balloons and popped some on purpose to see how he react and he acted the same way. I finally had to move all the ballloon out of his sight. If you've ever experience this with your child or in similar situation, would you please contact me and share your experience or intervention in such case. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

tnkaccount@yahoo.comTinaMemberHi Anne,
I opened my account at Royal Bank. The 1st time I went there, I met a lady and explained to her but it didn't work out. Then, I asked my social worker to provide a letter which explain why I need a chq in trust account and they created one for me. It's called: Leo's Young Saver Account. They even offered me $5 for opening this account. I remember the man was so kind, his name is Fran Xiao ( I think he knows about this already so you won't need the letter from your social worker) . I opened it at 400 Main Street, Vancouver. You can even call that branch 604 665 5240 to ask for info or to make an appointment to see who you'd like to talk to. What I got is an chq account with monthly statement send to me and 15 times free to use chq or bank machine. If you need more info, you can email me at tnkaccount@yahoo.com
Good luck.

Hi all,
My 4 years old child is on the waiting list on one to one support for preschool and the worker at the MCFD told me that he could get that soon. I wonder if any one know how to make them hire my own ABA therapist ( or at least hire one that has ABA experience) as they told me that they would not do so and they also said that the one they are going to hire would not support my child in preschool as a shadow there. I appreciate for any responds for this message, please share your experiences or ideas with me.I can be contact by this email account : tinakevin88@yahoo.com
Thank you very much.
