    Hi Danielle,

As far as I know, an IEP has never been a legal document in Canada (even though it is in the states). If the school fails to follow the IEP, you can use it as evidence that they have not done their job, but you can't call it a breach of contract.

The Focus on the Family program with Dr. James Dobson is on the air on Praise 106.5 FM, at 10:00am every weekend morning. Today was the first of a three-part series on autism. If you've missed it, you can listen to it online or download the MP3 for free:

    I just received this:

    ***
Pete McMartin of the Vancouver Sun is doing an indepth article on raising children with autism and is looking for families that may be interested in participating. My understanding is that he will follow the family around at certain times to get a better understanding of autism and how it affects the child and the family. It could be over a period of several months. I believe the idea is to help the general public understand autism and the challenges our families have in raising our children. If you are interested in participating, please email Pete at <pmcmartin@png.canwest.com>.

I am afraid that unless a FEAT BC family participates, the report will not include the challenges of running a home therapy program while working overtime to pay for the therapy and at the same time suing school boards. The public will not benefit much from reading about a family that does Floor Time once a day.

    Dear Rosario,

Please be very careful. Joining the wrong group can do a lot more harm than good. The autism community has a dark side. Please contact one of the following people:

Would someone please remind Mr. Clement that health care is a PROVINCIAL issue? Otherwise we'll end up with a NATIONAL aboriginal health care strategy. Why can't we just offer to set up a web site and a symposium?

Premier Gordon Campbell announces plan to improve health of B.C. aboriginals

    Nov. 27, 2006

    Provided by: Canadian Press
    Written by: CAMILLE BAINS

VANCOUVER (CP) – Ottawa has joined forces with the B.C. government and a First Nations group to improve the health of aboriginals in the province in the first such agreement in Canada.

Federal Health Minister Tony Clement said Monday the Conservatives have made some advances in aboriginal health issues in Ontario and Manitoba but haven't participated in any provincewide programs until now. "We're hoping that this will be a template for other agreements that we can reach with other provinces," Clement said from Ottawa.

"I really think it's the wave of the future to get this sort of comprehensive and systematic approach," he said about the plan designed to close the gap in health-care outcomes for aboriginals compared to other British Columbians.
