Super DadParticipantThe story about the autistic boy getting kicked off the plane reminds me of the time my 4-year-old got kicked out of the Aqua Riva Restaurant.
We were there with my extended family to celebrate my birthday. When my little guy whined, a customer from the next table started harassing him. The harassment made him cry, and the customer complained to the manager. The manager refused to listen to me, and kicked us out.
I was amazed to find out that the rest of the family, instead of walking out in anger, stayed and enjoyed their dinner. I then realized that I had lost my "real" family. The only family I had was the FEATBC/ASBC community.
Interestingly enough, after a couple of years of therapy, my boy was fine on his first long trip. We travelled 21 hours straight, by car, plane, bus, ferry, train and plane, and my boy was still happy. The smiles from the little guy made me forget any disappointment with stupid restaurants and disloyal family.

Super DadParticipantPLAYLAND EXIT PASS
If your child likes Playland rides but is not ready to learn to wait in line, you can go to Guest Services to get an Exit Pass. The pass allows you to go in via the exit gate for each ride, thus bypassing the lineup at the entrance gate.
Even though the pass says "one time exit pass", the Guest Services people always cross out the "one time" and write "all day." Since I have a family of four, they've been putting a "plus 3" on the pass to make sure all of us can ride together. If a new employee neglects to make the changes, I just remind them to do it and to initial it.
Have fun.

Dear Parents:
As a qualified student with a strong background in Special and Early Childhood education, I am writing to introduce myself as a candidate for open positions as ABA Therapist.
What I love most about teaching children with special needs is the children themselves. They know that I am interested in them by my enthusiastic approach and my ability to help them learn in the areas in which they are experiencing the most difficulty. I am confident that I would be a strong asset to your team.
I can start working immediately. I am available Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm, and would like to committ at least one year to the work.
Sincerely,

"The problem is, you talk to parents with a low-functioning kid, who've got a teenager who still goes to the bathroom in his pants and who's biting himself all the time. This guy destroys the house, and he's not typing, no matter what keyboards you make available. His life is miserable. It would be nice if you could prevent the most severe forms of nonverbal autism."
My comment is that a child does not need to be nonverbal to be miserable. Anyone who is severely affected will experience extreme frustration, regardless of how much he is accepted by people around him.

Super DadParticipantHere are a few nice articles that do not talk about autism, but do a good job of explaining the difference between science and snake oil:
