Systematic implementation of the principles of Applied
Behavior Analysis as solutions to staffing issues
(or Using ABA to train your ABA team)
by
Nathan Searle and Theresa Tournemille
at
7:00pm, May 19
in the North Building of the
Delbrook Recreation Centre in North VancouverWe are very excited to have two of the best local consultants as our guest speakers. A synopsis of the presentation is as follows:
Running an effective ABA program requires ongoing management of staff. Because of the hierarchy characteristic of ABA programs, the application of any home program is dependent both on its design (by the behavior analyst) and the accuracy by which it is implemented (through the instructors). An equally difficult task is managing staff in a way that effectively facilitates the accuracy of implementation required to produce optimal gains for the student. Management requires behavior change in staff and in those who are the administration of the program. The main thrust of the presentation is that the same principles that we use to effect change in students can and should be applied to staff members.
In simpler terms: Effective ABA treatment requires accurate adjustment of therapist behaviours according to the childs needs. The most effective way to train therapists to exhibit the desired behaviours is to use ABA. The same principals used to help children should be applied to help those working with children.
