    Lauren has been working with individuals with ASD/related challenges and their families since 1997. For the past nine years Lauren has focused her research and clinical work on supporting families of young children with developmental disabilities and severe food refusal behaviour.

    TOPIC:
    The purpose of this workshop presentation is to provide an overview of a behavioural model of assessment and intervention for families of children with developmental disabilities and problematic feeding behaviour. The aim of this model is to:
    (a) improve the child’s eating behaviour;
    (b) promote the child’s successful participation in a meal routine; and
    (c) empower family members to successfully support their child.

    Maple Room, in the North Building of the Delbrook Recreation Centre

    What I don't understand is why the school boards will not plan to have all students suffer to the same degree. Why must disabled students be first in line to lose their education?

Additionally, she has presented several posters and papers at the Association for Behavior Analysis, the California Association for Behavior Analysis, the New York Association for Behavior Analysis and the British Columbia Association for Behavior Analysis on topics ranging from interventions to improve employee motivation to techniques to improve acquisition rates in children with autism. She has also presented several workshops on behavior management techniques to parents, school personnel, and health care professionals. She is currently a private behavioral consultant working with children of all ages with autism spectrum disorders.

    Children with developmental disabilities are at particularly high risk of becoming the victim of physical or sexual abuse. The maltreatment may come from peers, caretakers, educators and anyone else with whom the children have contact in private. This presentation will discuss risk factors, warning signs and ways to minimize the risk.

    GUEST SPEAKER:
    We are very pleased to have Katie Allen as our guest. Katie obtained a Master of Science degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Northeastern University, Boston MA. She spent three years at the New England Center for Children, a leading day and residential program for children with autism in the United States. She moved to Vancouver to provide home-based ABA programs for children with autism, with a focus on severe behavioural challenges.

    TOPIC:
    Some of us have attended Katie’s amazing Functional Analysis lecture at the BC-ABA conference last year. For this evening, Katie will shift the focus slightly to the understanding of Functional Analysis by parents rather than professionals.
