Oops, please respond to my last posting at jsparson(at)telus.net. Thank you!
Stacey ParsonMemberMy son is almost 3.5 with "classic" autism. He only started repeating words and labelling everyday objects last week and is extremely behind his peers at preschool. This has me thinking that I might want to hold him back from starting Kindergarten (he's not scheduled to start until September 2011). I'm wondering if any parents have similar experiences and what you think I should do?? His birthday is November 28 and he is, like I said, extremely behind. He would be starting school at 4 years old if I didn't hold him back. Yet, James has been in ABA therapy since January and is making great progress. If I were to hold him back, is it better to repeat 3 year old or 4 year old classes? He attends Wind and Tide twice a week with about 20 hours of therapy a week. I am totally conflicted and confused! Any ideas??
Stacey ParsonMemberI recently attended the seminars on the ABCs of ABA and Play, Reinforcement and Manding. While I respect that some individuals may not have gotten enough out of the presentations, my husband and I definitely did. Some of the early material (on the first day) was not relevant to what I was looking for at the seminar but I'm sure it's hard to tailor such a broad topic to a specific audience. We were an audience of BI's, teachers and parents and I think Amanda did an awesome job of trying to incorporate some information for each of us in her presentation. I learned a lot and can't wait to send my BIs to the workshop the next time it's offered. I understand where other people may be coming from because there was a lot of introductory information that I knew from past research but I did benefit from the experience and don't feel this is the appropriate forum for a personal attack.
Stacey ParsonMemberWe are starting an ABA program for our 37 month old son. He is a smiley and cuddly little boy who loves playing with his trains, cars, lego and anything to do with the alphabet. He has a few words and does not injure himself or others. He is very stubborn!!
We are looking for outgoing and energetic line therapists to join our team. We will start with 2 hour sessions Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings as well as Monday through Friday afternoons and increase to three hour sessions in the near future. ABA experience is not required but you must have a willingness to learn, ability to get yourself to West Abbotsford for the sessions, and be able to make a 1 year committment. This is a great opportunity to work and learn under the guidance of Krista Zambolin and Lisa McDaid. A current criminal record check is required. Please email your resume to jsparson@telus.net.
Thank you!
Stacey ParsonMemberI'm looking to get my oldest son into Kindergarten this year and would like to send him to the same school that I will eventually choose for my 3 year old son (who has ASD). Therefore, I need to do my research now! I'm hoping someone will have feedback on schools in Abbotsford.
I'm looking specifically at South Poplar Traditional, North Poplar Fine Arts, or Sandy Hill (which is on the complete opposite side of town but supposed to be good). If you have any information on these schools or others in the area please email me at jsparson@telus.net.
Thank you!!
Stacey ParsonMemberMy son was recently diagnosed with Autism (today, in fact) and I want to start an ABA program as soon as possible. Unfortunately I have no idea where to start. Does anyone know of a good ABA Consultant willing to work in the Abbotsford area? Any ideas on where I go from here? Thank you for any help you can provide! Please email me at jsparson@telus.net.
