I'm looking for information … I heard today that there is a family in Abbotsford who have a half-day TA through the District and have worked out a deal to pay the additional hours themselves (so that the child gets full-time support in a public elementary school). If you know anything about this please email me at jsparson@telus.net. My son starts school in September and I'd love to get something like this set up with sd34! I realize the likelihood of full-time support being provided by the district is slim to none … Thank you!!
Stacey ParsonMemberI'm wondering if anyone has information on the Autism Day at Playland that apparently happens each year. I don't know when it is normallly held or even who hosts the event but friends were recently talking about it and I'm curious if it will happen again this year. Please reply to jsparson(at)telus(dot)net if you have know anything about this event.

A friend and I had discussed starting one in the past and we are very excited to get this underway. We have a venue at a school in Abbotsford but now we need feedback on days and times parents would be available to attend. Please respond to jsparson@telus.net if you're interested in attending.

Stacey ParsonMemberPlease help me! My 3 year old son (little J) has classic autism. He has some language but cannot always express himself clearly. When my husband and I were at work last Monday something happened and our son won't go into our living room or kitchen anymore. His ABA team was having their weekly meeting in his bedroom and he was playing in the living room with his brothers. My mother-in-law was in the kitchen and has no idea what may have happened. His brothers can't explain it either. Little J just started screaming and ran into his bedroom. He is now perfectly happy to be in his room with the door closed (sometimes open but I have to remind him to leave it that way) but when we ask him to come out he closes his eyes and tips the top of his head toward the rooms (to shield his face). I don't know what to do! It's been a week and he still closes his eyes and clings to us whenever we take him out. Little J is fine going into the bathrooms, the other bedrooms, the basement or leaving the house (in fact as soon as he hits the stairs he returns to normal) but if we enter the living room he screams, clings to us and his heart rate increases. What should we do???
Stacey ParsonMemberHi,
I'm hoping for some feedback and help. I have been pricing out the Boardmaker program for my son. He is 3.5 with very basic language skills and his ABA therapy uses pecs. I have been so disorganized with using them in the household (beyond his therapy) and need to remedy this. Can anyone suggest the best (cheapest) place to get Boardmaker or maybe there's another method for pecs that I haven't thought of yet? Please reply to jsparson(at)telus(dot)netThanks for your help!

Stacey ParsonMemberI have a question about the Home Owner Grant. I've searched the site and read the topics about the Disability amount but I am still unsure whether I can claim it if I'm currently utilizing my Autism Funding to pay for the ABA Therapy. We are running low and will be paying out-of-pocket soon but so far this year it has all been covered. My son was only diagnosed in December so we don't have any previous year information to go on, either. Is there any way I can apply for this grant even though I haven't paid for therapy out of pocket yet this year? We will definitely surpass the $150 per month that is required in the second half of the year!
