Barbara RodriguesParticipant
Oh boy!!! I am spitting mad!!! Stockwell Day voted against Bill C-304! That guy – years of rhetoric and the gall to put my son and another son in his pamphlet he sends out prior to election and then to stab these kids in the back again!!!
I need to put what he has done in the papers – it will be printed – so please someone help me with some good points to say! I am so mad right now – a spineless jellyfish is all I can come up (and I know that won't work) I did send him an email though this morning – telling him I am mad and disappointed and will remember when the time comes for the next election. We are moving to another city but unfortunately for him – he's still my MP.

Barbara RodriguesParticipantHi:
Is anyone going to the meeting tomorrow night that might be willing to take notes – just broad form ones to pass along to those of us up in the Okanagan? If so – could you email them to me at
westernad@hotmail.comThank you so much in advance.
Barbara Rodrigues
Barbara RodriguesParticipantThanks Nicole – that is very helpful – I passed it along to the mom. Very interesting – I wish they had something like that here in B.C.
Thanks for taking the time -it's appreciated.
Thanks also to you Dave – unfortunately her Ped. isn't too responsive and mom has some Infant Development involved who don't see 'it' but she mentioned they didn't see 'it' her son who was later diagnosed (go figure).

Barbara RodriguesParticipantHi:
For anyone from Ontario on list:
Do you know of a specialist that a mom can take her baby girl (8months) to for an evaluation? Her son has autism and now she is seeing some disturbing signs in her baby. Her Pediatrician is of no help. Is there a Psychologist or someone else you could recommend out there?
Email me at bartist@canada.com pls put Ontario in the subject line.
TIA
Barbara

Barbara RodriguesParticipantHi Cathy:
Have you tried those 'hop balls' you can inflate them and they have a handle and the kids jump along/bounce on them – my son loved his (still does – we bought a bigger size one later one) You can get them a toyrus or Zellers – under 20.00.
Barbara
Barbara RodriguesParticipantI agree with Michelle – there is a whole group of kids in our community who do NOT benefit from integration (especially as they age up) also the fact is there are many kids with autism who are bullied/made fun of and segregated within the school system. No one can handle them – knows what to do with them and they are just warehoused in the system until they 'graduate'.
If you had seen or did see Brigette Taylor – you could see she was passionate about this – there being a need for a well run school where these kids (kids that aren't 'mild') can actually learn and grow. I personally don't care if Jeremy has so-called buddies within the school system – and people will always look at him different at this point – no matter what – I live in Penticton and there are kids with autism within the school system but that doesn't change many kids outlooks especially in middle/high school UNLESS your child is so very mild that no one notices – then of course everyone accepts them – then they aren't really different.
What I do care about is what his future holds. My son doesn't have the ability nor the desire to be 'friends' with most kids his age. He still has a great quality of life and continues to learn. We still work on behaviors and hope that he can continue to be involved in the community, etc. We don't lock in him the house and do tons of outings and go places he enjoys and also some he doesn't.
I think choice is a factor here and for those of us whose children do not fit into the mild category or missed out on early intevention and the many children that are classicly autistic should have the option to have a great education. They don't have that option now. To open private well run schools for kids with autism gives those kids a chance – those whose children do well within the public system can stay there as that's where they excell. I think it's all about choice and people should have that choice for their kids. Right now – we don't.
As you can see I am quite passionate about this and would love to win the lottery and open a school. :-)
Barbara
Barbara RodriguesParticipantHey, Michelle:
Sorry to post this on-list – Nice to hear from you!! Glad Brad is doing so well! We sure need to do some tree shaking up here – I also think we need to look into private autism schools – integration is great but there are many many kids like mine who would have benefited from an awesome school like those you attend or the one run by Brigette Taylor, Joanne Gersener, Bobby Newman. Too bad that can't be a reality up here. That's my dream if I win the lotto.
Thanks also for posting the communication device – looks pretty neat.
Email me privately if you get a chance – have some BIG (not autism related) news I want to share with you privately.
