Barbara RodriguesParticipant
Way to go Mr. P!! That's so cool Dave.
Barbara RodriguesParticipantHi Stacey:
Yes, what Claire said – how upsetting for you. Was/is there a tv on that room – maybe something flashed or scared him on that? My son has never had those 'terror' attacks but I know kids that have – it's very hard trying to figure out the trigger and with your little guy being just that so little it must be so hard for him and you. My son would cry hysterically over 'twinkle twinkle little star' and that was when he was 4 -to this day if he's upset – he will point to a star and cry. I hope you can figure out what happened or a least how to desensitize him from his fear. If you knew what his fear was then you could try that but he's soooo young…..I am not sure how they do that….I am not sure how old your other boys are – is there some way someone could ask them point by point what little J was doing -what they were doing – etc? I am sure you tried all that though. My thoughts are with you – hopefully you can get some help with this soon. Just another part of autism that brings so much pain for us as parents that our babies can't tell us what's wrong/what happened/what's scarey/what hurts…..

Barbara RodriguesParticipantWell said Jean – both articles are very well written. Thank you Dione for taking the time! I also fear funding is on the outs – for us we are old timers and will be out of this system soon and the younger kids are going to be left as our kids were – with nothing and no protection for without laws made to make people/governments/schools accountable.

I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do.

I had the great privilage of attending one of his conferences in LA way back in 1998 and got to meet the wonderful man. He created such change for our kids -it is a very sad day indeed.
Dear friends,
I've been so honored to be on this list for over 15 years. I'm thinking that many of you have not heard this news and it is with a heavy heart I tell you… A dear mentor of mine who worked with and for Dr. Lovaas for years called me today and told me he passed away yesterday evening. In tears, she asked me to write the Me List and other lists and let you know.
For our part, Dr. Lovaas and his work with the children saved our son's life. We saw a difference in our child almost immediately when we started our home program. We are profoundly and forever grateful for his vision of something better for our children, always working faithfully toward their best possible outcome.
I met Dr. Lovaas once in Dallas, having the pleasure of sitting down to tea or coffee or some such. I was struck by his passion for excellence and by his passion for the children. I saw him speak so many times I lost count. He had such a high bar of expectation for our children and such compassion for us, the parents. I loved to hear him speak just to be energized by the humor, love and sincere desire to never stop working for our children.
We offer our prayers and condolences to his dear family, colleagues, and friends and we too grieve this loss.
love to you all, kat lee

Thanks for posting that Jemma – same old bs – just dished up to us again <sigh> I agree with your sentiment exactly.

Barbara RodriguesParticipantHello everyone:
I was just wondering what (if any) response anyone has had concerning the loss of direct autism funding? My concerns were answered with the fact that there a some (probably a minor few) that were misusing funds – I won't get into the hows/whats but that was the one answer – (although nothing in writing to that effect). Why the rest of us are being punished for the actions of a few is beyond me but my guess is MCFD has wanted to 'take away' direct funding for a long time and now have a few valid reasons to.
My other question is for those who have been switched to direct funding – how long is it taking for your staff to get paid? Is it timely? How are you able to hire staff who will only get paid every 6 weeks????
Thanks in advance.

Barbara RodriguesParticipantThanks Jenn – very powerful – we really need laws here – we don't have any protection for our kids – our disabled. I remember years ago Sabrina mentioning this and how very far behind we were in that area from the US. I will post this on my facebook and vote – they look like a good organization.

Barbara RodriguesParticipantDoes anyone know if the media came out for the rally and if so what stations? Thanks in advance.
