Looking for ABA SW to begin in January 2015 in the (South) Surrey SD for Grade 9 girl.
Training could start on home team anytime.
Please reply to jenn.ralph@telus.netJenn RalphMemberHi all, feel free to use, adjust and send to as many gov, union and media people as possible:
This is what I just sent: Please feel free to use and adjust as letters to as much media and ministers as possible: Dear Ministers DeJong, Cadieux, Fassbender and Premier Clarke
We are parents of a teen daughter with autism who needs support, like all special needs children, during this strike. Unlike typically developing teens, most special needs teens cannot take care of themselves during the day.
She is not and has never been part of the "supported child development" center funding which is completely irrelevant to most kids with autism, let alone other special needs in BC. She has had a full time ABA Support worker aide for her autism in school since grade one. Although she is over age 12, she cannot look after herself and needs the extra support that she would normally get in school but that she is now prevented from accessing. What is the government doing to "subsidize" and accommodate these special needs students like they are doing to other typically – developing students that need child care? The funding that is normally allocated to them while in school (18,500/year) should be allocated to them during this strike.
Why is there no plan or accommodation for special needs students during this strike? Please provide the subsidy that they would normally get in school, during the strike. $18,500 divided by 188 school days = $98.40/day so we can continue, at least to a certain extent, her supportive learning that she requires for her disability.
We would appreciate a response. Ironically our kids are what appear to be at the core of the strike – class composition – yet both sides seem to have overlooked our kids and their rights and needs. Kids first? We currently find that slogan very ironic to say the least, and need a solution ASAP.
Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you. We previously sent this request to Minister Cadieux and the Premier with no response to date.
Jennifer and DougJenn RalphMemberLooking for an ABA SW for September in South Surrey. This position is 20 hours per week for a girl entering high school in grade 8. Ideally the candidate would also work 1 afternoon/week after school (but not absolutely necessary) and meet us and train with our home team in the summer for 3-4 shifts before school starts.
Interested applicants can email me at
jennifer.r@shaw.ca with resume and cover letter.
We look forward to hearing from you:-)Jenn RalphMemberHi Melissa,
I'd be happy to meet with you. I live in South Surrey but work several days each week in Vancouver so I can come to you.
You can email me at jenn.ralph@shaw.ca privately and we can organize details.
I remember what it was like when my daughter was first diagnosed so I understand what you are going through….many of us do and can certainly help.
For organized support groups and other great info check out

I also know that there is a monthly group with a speaker in North Van / West Van regularly – keep checking this board for messages about those.
Hang in there:-)

JennJenn RalphMemberThank you Joachim! I echo Dave's comments except I AM in tears :-)
Way to go Alex! Thanks so much for sharing.
JennJenn RalphMemberWell said Dave!!!

JennJenn RalphMemberSorry…wanted to thank Dave Marley too….sorry Charlie!
JennJenn RalphMemberindeed…you are so right Dave…
Lest we forget…
The people that have helped thousands of children achieve their potential.
My life,my family's life and my daughter's life, were changed by the likes of Jean Lewis, Sabrina Freeman, Dave and Julia Chan, Barbara Rodriguez, Bev Sharpe, Dr. Glen Davies, Dr. Mel DeLevie, the hon justice Chris Hinkson and Birgitta VonKrosik, the Auton families, the Anderson familes and the Hewko's… among so many others. Now there is a new generation but if we don't all learn from the past….we are destined to repeat it.
We must all learn the history, be aware of the current and consistent challenges and learn how to advocate. Please everyone, especially new families, attend this workshop on Apr 30th. If you absolutely can't make it, make a point of getting to a FEAT or ABA Support Network meeting.Jenn RalphMemberHi Jane,
ABA is without a doubt the most effective and this has been proven over and over again. ABA is tailored to each child and their needs even if they have higher functioning abilities.
If someone is telling you different, ask them to see the study that suggests what they are saying – I would bet that it doesn't exist. Also ask them what they are purporting as most effective – and then research it and you will most likely find a conflict of interest.
Call or email me if you need any more information.
