This message is in response to Claudette Varley. My children too attended MEI and we had a wonderful experience.

I would suggest you talk to the principal and let them know you have a consultant that knows your child and an approach that works and is funded.

Feel free to use my name as a reference of what they previously accepted and supported with great success.
We moved in November 2010 so it is recent. I had two of my children at the school and the school was very supportive , we had an amazing SEA and Resource teacher.

It just might be that the new principal is not aware of it. Mr Jansen was the principal and I believe he is the superintendent now. Again feel free to mention my name Jenny Obando and the Worobey boys.

    I hope it helps.

    Re preschool support,

One way to get around it is to find a preschool that DOES NOT have a support person on staff, because that means they would have to hire someone to be with your child.

This is when you come in , in your white horse and save them because you can solve that problem for them, since you already have someone who knows your son and is totally trained.

The preschool of course would have to interview them and approve of them and then, apply for supported child care funding on behalf of your child, and they hire and pay her directly.

If the funding is not approved because of waiting list, then you would have to pay your child’s helper directly.

That is how we did it and it worked great, many moons ago, however I do not think it has changed that much.

    I hope this info helps

You can claim your consultant expenses as long as the consultant is under the guidance or “supervision “ of a psychologist.. You can also claim behavioral interventionist (therapist), expenses as long as the expense is over and above the $1667 we get from the government. So if you are spending more than this amount that is what you can claim.
If you get audited as we have make sure that your invoice from therapist and consultant has their name, address, SIN, and the invoice has to specify the name of the client, meaning your child’s name and that the services is to treat autism as well as type of therapy.

NO Materials are being accepted by revenue Canada for medical expenses, even if the consultant or psychologist has recommended or required these materials. However I have heard that it depends on the officer you get, so you can always try and if you are lucky they might say yes.
This is in the case that you get audited, that they will check your expenses for materials.

    I hope this helps.
