    Hello all
The “Autism Funding in BC” website is being forced to close because of a cancellation in service by Microsoft.
The new “Autism Funding in BC” is now published with a new service and incorporates some changes including:
    • Completely revised content. Many of the pages have been updated to reflect recent changes.
    • The downloadable files have been revised and updated.
    • You can now sign up for email updates (highly recommended). These updates will only be used to update readers on financial matters.
    • As before, the website will continue to be an ad free environment.
    • The site now incorporates a search function.
    • Readers will now have the ability to comment on any of the posts. If desired you can receive an email for any follow up comments
    • You now easily share pages through social media or email.
I hope you like the changes. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello all

I have created a new discussion forum to discuss autism issues in BC.

The site is entitled “The Autism Forum of BC” and is located at http://www.asdchat.com

The FEAT chat forum is not shutting down and I am in no way proposing that it do so. The FEAT forum has over the years provided a valuable service to British Columbians affected by autism. It has linked parents together and promoted ABA in our province.

Unfortunately the forum software is badly out of date and no one appears to have the appetite to update it. Many people have turned away because they were unable to register or unable to post.

The new discussion forum uses the latest software and is user friendly. Some of the features include:
    • Automated and easy registration
    • Language support for 46 different languages
    • Daily, weekly, or monthly emails of all or selected new posts (or no emails at all if desired)
    • Private Messaging
    • Better security (email addresses will no longer be viewable by other users or the general public)
    • Regional forums to support regions outside of the Lower Mainland
    • Better search features
    • Individuals will be better able to customize their viewing experience and
    • Many more features to appeal to the experts and the neophytes alike.

I would encourage you all to have a look at the new forum and pass this information along to others affected by autism in B.C.

    Thank you

Worksafe assessed us as being in the "Counseling or Social Services Classification (Autism Counseling)(766007)" which is $0.60 per $100 of assessable payroll.
Each case is viewed independently. Remember that WCB can be claimed from Autism Funds.
Depending on the details of your case you may not need coverage. As our child went into the school system and his hours were cut back, WCB reassessed us and decided we didn't need coverage.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but now that the calendar year is complete, it's time to start collecting all your paperwork for tax time.
I've had my website up and running for just over a year now and have had many parents email me with their tax questions. Overall I am appalled at the amount of money people are throwing away.
Parents are willing to fight tooth and nail for every penny from the BC government autism funds program, but then completely screw up their taxes thereby gifting thousands of dollars to the federal government.
To counter this trend, I've created the Top Ten Tax Mistakes on my website in the hope of putting more money back in your pockets where it belongs.

    Good Luck

Hello all. Just a gentle reminder to all FEAT of BC members that the board is limited to a specific range of topics.
The FEAT BC Discussion Group is the place to discuss all topics relevant to home-based Lovaas behavioural autism treatment programs (including Government funding and school issues). When we use the term Lovaas autism treatment, we mean discrete-trial-based interventions for autism and related disorders.
I respect any parent who choses a different path for their child, however this is not the forum for bio-medical issues.
    Thank you

For those of you switching from Direct Funding to Invoice, MCFD has created a guide to explain the differences. The Invoice Funding uses a bizarre accounting method that only a bureaucrat could invent. There is a requirement to allocate your funds before the money is spent and there is no provision to allow you to pay your staff on time.
Nonetheless, this guide explains it well.

You may view the PDF here

    – It is also available in a printable PDF format

My only advice is to have a stiff drink before you read it.

Just a reminder to all that the deadline for the 2009 RDSP contributions is quickly approaching. Dec 31st is the last day to contribute if you want to take advantage of the Federal Government matching grants and bonds.
If you are on social assistance, you may be eligible for a $150 grant from the Vancouver Foundation. http://www.endowment150.ca/apply.htm
If you need more information about this excellent savings plan, please refer to the following page for more information.
