Andrea FinchParticipantHi Everyone;
Happy Spring!
"Spring has sprung, the grass is green,
Does anyone else want to do a Spring Clean?"As coordinators of the North Shore Chapter of ASBC, we are wondering whether anyone else out there is interested in getting rid of old stimuli and reinforcers, or in picking up items "new to you". We could use the current location of our monthly talks, St. David's Church in West. Vancouver, and the available time is Saturday, June 3rd, from 10 am – 12 noon. We can either use their parking lot, if it's nice out, or head inside if it's not. We're not sure whether they have tables, but generally a tarp or blanket is enough.
This would be a swap for ABA-related materials only. Participants would have to be responsible for all items brought on to and taken off the premises (that means, we don't want to be hauling away anybody else's stuff at the end of the day!) So all participants should plan to send a parent, therapist, or other responsible person.
This seems to us like a great opportunity for teams to refresh their team's stimuli or reinforcers, but we need a minimum number of answers to make this worthwhile. So, if you're prepared to commit to this date, please get back to Andrea (at andreafinch@shaw.ca) or Eva (eva@evaleeassociates.com) by May 7th and specify (1) whether you are interested, (2) whether you wish to donate/sell items, or pick up items, or both and (3) the general nature of the items you have (whether they're geared to pre-school, elementary, etc.).
We will post again after May 7th to let everyone know whether this event is going to occur or not.
Cheers,
Andrea and Eva
Andrea FinchParticipantHello everyone,
For the ASBC North Shore Lecture Series, our next topic will be "ABA Kids Can Play: the Art and Science of the Playdate". We will again have parent and therapist perspectives, this time covering how to put together playdates that no kid would want to miss! This information will help anyone who is at the stage of integrating one-to-one peer interaction into their ABA programme.
Date: Tuesday, April 25th, 7 pm – 9 pm
Location: St. David's Church (Taylor Way and Upper Levels Hwy. in West Vancouver) – the "Cypress Room".
Cost: Free -donations acceptedPLEASE do RSVP to either myself andreafinch@shaw.ca or Eva Lee at eva@evaleeassociates.com
See you there!
Andrea FinchParticipant** THERAPIST OPPORTUNITY **
Exciting opportunity for a new or experienced therapist – if you've got lots of energy and want to be part of a well-run established team, this might be the job for you!
We are looking to add someone to our 4 year old son's Lovaas-style ABA team, under the direction of consultant Catherine Sharpe. Our son is engaging, verbal and lots of fun. We've run his programme for over 2 years now and are preparing for Kindergarten this fall.
We provide the necessary training. Team members work 2-3 shifts per week of 3 hours each. We require attendance at bi-weekly team meetings. Salary commensurate with experience.
Please direct inquiries or applications (resume and cover note) to andreafinch@shaw.ca.
Andrea FinchParticipant** Request info. re: pre-school aides' **
If anyone out there has had experience helping a pre-school set up the required paperwork with Supported Child Care, for a home-team ABA aide, would they kindly e-mail me privately, at andreafinch@shaw.ca. Our pre-school is very supportive of the idea, but has only dealt with situations where the aide was provided by SCC.
Thanks in advance for your help.
