MemberHi Peter Wong
So wonderful for you to share these great real life stories. I just watched the one on Rick Hoyt & his dad(Team Hoyt) and I feel so inspired to fight for my son's education. Truly limited to only the words "I CAN". I am sick with a fever of 103 degrees and feeling sorry for myself and now I am charged up. The tylenol I took could not give me more power to get better than your video sharing. I truly believe that we were chosen to receive our children…because they bring out the best in us and so we learn through them how to become better parents. I was kind of feeling sorry for my ASD son up until this video. Now I think it is so "limited". I realize that the world sees our kids as disabled but we share with them the impossible but do-able dream of POSSIBLE and ABLE! Go Peter !
Thank you for your great postings in the past.
Thanks a bunch to all moms and dads and professionals that have answered my emails and postings at FEAT. Today is a good day!

MemberHello everyone,
Is there anyway we can find out the policy for public school (elementary) for autism funding?
What I mean is my son was diagnosed on the spectrum this past July. But thing is he was "sharing" an assistant's time last year by being in the same class because he has no "label". Now it seems that he is officially designated with Category G for ASD he has been reduced to 2 hours of Assistant time. Please tell me what your experiences are in the public school and we are School District no. 41 (Burnaby). I don't know if we have a right as parents to request more time because another boy in the classroom next door is being paired up with another ASD child and that person with no label has more aid time than my son. This does not sound right. Please advise and all comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
email: bubblepiggy2@hotmail.com or post here.
Thx.

MemberMr. P's proud parents,
I agree with Stella in that these are the moments we live for. When all the hard work is done these priceless times are for us to cherish and bring us out of the not so happy times.
I am sure Mr. P can feel the love beaming on him from his parents and His Creator.Cheers,

MemberAnyone know of any behavioral consultants available to take on new case? The child is 7 years old and high function with high IQ.
There are waiting list we are on and in all honesty it is not until late 2008 before we may see one.
In the meanwhile I don't want to go without any therapy at all? Please share any good referrals with ability to accept new case. We are not very complicated people and the child should be easy to manage/work with.
We appreciate any referrals right now.
Cheers,

I welcome any comments but please do not forward my emails to anyone. Please let me know if you need to forward it to assist you in more info. I am completely open minded to sharing emails but the courtesy of a "heads up" or "I'd like to pass on your email" always appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to reply. After all, a reply is still a good thing.
Thank you Bill and Cheryl Jensen for your email. I appreciate your honesty.
Thx

Memberhello FEATers,
does anyone know how long it takes to set up an ABA plan with consultant (how many appts)? I have two B.I.s waiting in the wing and will be ready in January to start. I hope there are some concrete and resourceful info you may include to guide rookies into this all too confusing situation.
Thx.

MemberHi Debra,
thx soooo much for your support because it means so much. even if one person supports my earlier post than it is enough for me. I am fortunate my comments were made "safely" because I feared this would happen (shared with the consultant). But I also agree that if the professional is good then they will also understand the need for us to check everything and everyONE our children work with.I am honestly giving up and don't think I want to persue ABA only. This consultant and interventionist is too complicated. And the waiting list is like forever. I know if they are good you have to wait but government has made the funds available but not the people with the skills set to go with it. Therapy for a better future of our kids should not be hard.
I thought being misdiagnosed by FHAN was bad. What a waste of my time first accepting the fact there was something not "normal" and then having to turn around and prove that he is autistic and wave my hands in the air to get that aknowledged. It has been a long 3.5 yr journey to get here and only more disappointment. I am disgusted at the fact that there are more children than consultants available.
I suppose I should realize if my chidren were in Asia they would receive NO help and probably thrown into the looney bin (psychiatric ward). At least we try to be more humane over here in North America or so we try.

PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN YOU GET A RESPONSE TO YOUR PRIVATE EMAIL BY ANOTHER PERSON ON THE FEAT CHATBOARD.
I POSTED A SIMILIAR AD ONLY TO HAVE IT BACKFIRE. MY EMAIL WAS SENT TO THE PERSON I INQUIRED ABOUT AND I AM VERY UPSET. IT SHOULD BE CONFIDENTIAL REGARDLESS AND THE PERSON THAT DID THAT DID NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO EMAIL OR FORWARD MY COMMENTS TO ANYONE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.JUST A HEADS UP

MemberHello everyone,
We have been seeing Ron Schmidt at Able Clinic for our 7 yr old diagnosed with PDD-NOS. Please advise what your experience is with him and all comments are appreciated. Also, if you have a high functioning, Asperger type (high IQ) child, how has ABA helped you?
I appreciate all suggestions, comments and respectful opinions.
You may post here or email me at yipee@shaw.ca
** as a new mom on the scene I want to research EVERYTHING I do.
