    Hi everyone,

I have just connected with a mom in New Brunswick that has a new diagnosis and is looking for information. Does anyone know a family in NB who is running a program who she may be able to connect with?

    Please email me dionec@shaw.ca

    Thanks

    Hi

I took our 4.5 year old son to the Pediatric Dental Group (PDG) in Sunshine Hills to see Dr Leung. All the staff there were very understanding and accomodating and would never force anything on a child that they weren't ready for. We even managed to get a couple of xrays done and a full exam at his first visit.

Everyone there specializes in pediatric dentistry and have experience dealing with special needs children. There are lots of toys and tvs as well! I think there may even be several locations.

    Good luck.

    Hi everyone,

I just want to say thank you to everyone for the support and advice in response to my last posts looking for information on support for K in SD36.

We have decided to hold our son back a year (he turns 5 in December) and concentrate on his home program (we are in week 9 and so far so good) and keep him in preschool for a year.

Of course he will not get any funding or support for preschool since he is ELIGIBLE for K this year – whether we send him or not. I intend on advocating anyway as well as starting the process to find someone on our home team that can attend with him.

Thanks again – all responses I received are truly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Dione

    Hi Everyone,

I am looking for any advice or experience anyone has with the Surrey School System (SD36) with regards to obtaining special services such as speech and language therapy and OT.

My 4 year old son is entering K in the fall and we had our transition meeting the other day. It was made very clear to me that resources are spread thin and not always available. Language and communication development are one of his top priorities and a big part of his home program.

We are advocating for an ABA Support Worker and putting procedures in place to ensure close communication between the school and home team (we are in week 5 of our home based program). Agsin, it was made clear to me that supply and demand are not equal at this time and we might not get what he needs.

I am feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to navigate the public school system and would appreciate any advice. I have considered holding him back for another year of preschool (he's a December baby) but was told that there would be no funding for support for him there.

    Thanks for any input.
