    Class Structure:

    The classes will consist of a variety of presentations, guided discussions, brief exercises, video demonstrations and question and answer times. Rather than a traditional lecture style, the classes are designed with a “round table” approach, where parents can bring questions, ideas and input in order to facilitate discussion. The presenters will endeavor to provide a broad, conceptual framework for the classes, in order that parents may take the information to their own consultants and teams, in order to structure details, strategies and programs specific to their child.

    Readings (all books and other readings are included in the course fee) :

    SOS Help for Parents: A Practical Guide for Handling Common Everyday Behavior Problems. Author: Lynn Clark.

    The Power of Positive Parenting. Author: Glenn I. Latham

    Additional materials will be provided by the instructors.

    About the Instructors:

    Danielle Eeuwes has worked with children and youth with autism for 11 years. She is currently working on her MSc in Applied Behavior Analysis and is working as a Junior Behavior Consultant supporting individuals with autism on Vancouver Island in home, school and community environments.     Tyla Frewing has recently completed a M.Sc. in Applied Behavior Analysis and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Tyla has worked with children and youth with autism for 10 years, and currently provides behavioral consultation to children and youth in the home and school environments.     Leah Mumford has worked with children and youth with autism for 12 years, and is working on her MEd in Special Education at UBC.     Theresa Tournemille has worked with individuals with autism for 11 years and has recently completed a Masters of Science in Behavior Analysis from St. Cloud State University. She has co-developed a premier model for 24-hour teaching homes (based on the principles of ABA) and is currently providing behavior consultation services under Dr. Sara White (BCBA-D) and Nate Searle (BCBA).     Hi everyone

    We have 2 twin size bed frames to give away. One is oak and one is painted white. Both are similar to this IKEA bed but they have 3 drawers underneath.

    Hi everyone

    I have an 8 year old we are teaching to play soccer. I am looking for feedback on any experience with ABA programs and strategies to teach these skills from basic ball skills up to learning team play.

    So far teaching basic ball skills has been successful now we want to move him on.

    ABA Therapist Position in S. Surrey

    We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work as a behavior therapist providing intervention for our 8 year old son with autism.

    Job Description:

    • Implement a structured curriculum designed by a qualified consultant to teach language, social, play, academic and self help skills.
    • Train with a Senior Therapist under the direction of Dr Sara White and intern Colby Anderson
    • Receive ongoing training opportunities and attend supervision meetings for the child.
    • Work in the home teaching 1:1, facilitating playdates and also community outings.
    • Summer schedule will include therapy sessions and support at day camps. School year schedule requires availability for shifts 3-6pm and possibly weekends.

    Job Requirements:

    • Lots of energy, excellent play skills, love working with children, you are motivated and patient with a positive attitude.
    • Ideal candidates will be interested or involved in a related field such as Psychology, ABA, Child Development, etc. . .
    • Have previous experience with typically developing children and/or children with special needs.
    • Reliability and a good work ethic.
    • Must be able to commit to minimum of 2 x 3-hour shifts per week plus team meetings (every 3 weeks).
    • Must be at least 19 years of age with a clear criminal record check.
    • Candidates must have reliable transportation. Location is in the South Surrey area.

    • This is an excellent entry level position which can lead to a variety of career options in the field of ABA.

    4. How do we support our learners to keep on learning and striving for social success?

    Bohdanna Popowycz Kvam M.Ed BCBA is a behavioural consultant specializing in Lovaas style ABA for children with autism. She trained and worked with a Lovaas Replication Site for 10 years and was involved in opening clinics in the United States and in the U.K. In September of 2007 Bohdanna and colleagues opened Harmony House Preschool, an inclusive preschool for children with autism and their peers. Currently Bohdanna serves as the Executive Director of Harmony House which has grown into a clinical facility that focuses on families and supports and supervision in home settings, social groups, homeschool club and parent support groups.
