Success at the Dentist!!
Wednesday June 15, 7-10pm
Pinetree Community Centre, 1260 Pinetree Way, CoquitlamSpecial Presentation with a very special guest speaker Kayla Ragosin-Miller , who has developed the Dental Intervention Program for children with Autism and related disorders at BC Childrens Hospital
This presentation has been created by Louise Witt (Parent and Director of the ASN) in collaboration with Kayla Ragosin-Miller (Dental Hygienist at BC Children's Hospital). Kayla started the Dental Desensitization program at Children's and Louise's son Jack has participated in the program alongside his home ABA program.
This presentation will outline some steps that allow children with ASD to be successful not only going to the dentist but a variety of activities like going for a haircut, to a restaurant etc.
Children with ASD deserve access to great oral care and it can be done!

About Kayla Ragosin-Miller:
Kayla Ragosin-Miller is a dental hygiene graduate from the University of Manitoba. She works in private practice, is a part time instructor and is the hygienist at BC Childrens Hospital. Through her studies in the field of Autism Intervention and behaviour modification Kayla has developed the Dental Intervention Program for children with Autism and related disorders at BC Childrens Hospital. She has been delivering workshops on how compliance for routine dental procedures can be achieved for this clientele. Last August she was the recipient of "The Dental Hygienist Makes a Difference" award from the British Columbia Dental Hygienists Association for her intervention program. Currently she is also consulting for the new dental clinic that will be opening in the Pacific Autism Family Centre in 2017.Are you looking for support, information or want to connect with other parents? Location: Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex "Green Room" – 2150 Wilson Ave, Port Coquitlam, V3C 6J5Nancy Walton is a Director of the Autism Support Network and the parent of a son with autism. Nancy has been managing a home based ABA program for over 14 years, and has maintained sucessful collaboration with educational professionals and para-professionals in the Surrey School District. Nancy has a wealth of knowledge to share regarding advocacy issues.

Louise is a social worker and parent of a child who has autism. She is a member of the Pacific Autism Family Center steering committee and an advocate in the autism community in BC.
The focus of this presentation is on supporting parents to identify the components of an evidence based therapy program that will best suit their child, including evaluating and hiring service providers.
