    Hi folks,

Quick question regarding the "Invoice Payment" option… Once you submit your "Request to Pay" (RTP) form how long is it currently taking for your Service Provider (ie Behavior Consultant)to be paid? A few years ago it was taking a few months (two or three months at one point in time) but in recent conversation with the Autism Funding Branch they indicated that RTPs are being processed and that Service Providers are being paid within 14-30 days…. True?

    Hi,

I was invited to attend but could not.

I don't think it was an exclusive ("private") meeting as it appears to me that a wide cross section of people were invited to participate in this initial formative meeting.

It is my understanding that the Provincial Government is prepared to fund the development of the physical plant (the buildings) and that a board comprised of community members has been struck – this "board" would be responsible for program development and that the process of development would draw upon input from stake holders. It seems that they are in the initial planning phase… and that input is being sought after…

"Adam's parents sometimes tie his hands and feet with fabric
    restraints,"

Perhaps I am being naive but this comment in the article referenced below really struck me as odd and disturbing.

    Hello "Luke's mama",

"Anyone out there have a success story to share with their IEP at school?"

Yes. We have had great success working with our son's School Based Team in the development of an IEP in partnership with our Behavioral Consultant and our contracted OT. The school Spec Ed Admin team agreed to higher our home based Senior Therapist to be his SSA. They have allowed us to bring ABA into the school as the primary educational modality. It has been a very positive experience to date (1st year). Our son is welcomed by staff and students. Space has been found for 1-1 teaching as needed when he is not within the regular classroom (although things do get bumped around sometimes). Our "outside" contractors are part of the IEP team and process. They have been invited to attend and observe our son on a regular basis in the classroom and school environment. They do so with a great degree of professionalism and as part of our son's educational team.

To arrive at this point has taken work and relationship building. It has been worth it.

"is public school better or private school?"

Based on information I have heard from other parents all I can say in response is "Sometimes". Some private schools are excellent… others not so much. Same goes for Public Schools.

"Does funding get cut after you switch to private?"

No. Your L2 grant ($16,000) will follow your child. If you enroll in a Private school you will see some reduction in funding levels as the Basic Student Grant will be reduced to half (just under $3000.00)

    Hi Vanessa,

It is interesting how the Funding Unit has proceeded with regard to "interns" who are working under supervision of qualified Behavioral Consultants. On the one hand the Ministry appears to recognize that there is a "capacity" issue – we simply do not have a sufficient number of skilled Consultants – and on the other hand by restricting funding they seem to have failed to recognize that "interns", working under supervision, may in fact be the best way of addressing this "capacity" issue. One would have thought that they would have embraced this model of training as it serves to ensure supervised practice (which is lacking in programs that are simply academic in nature) and supports the development of "capacity" within BC as more people complete the requirements for BCBA credentials. I would hope that the Ministry would revisit this issue so as to support this effective means of building capacity within our community. Failure to do so will simply propagate the status quo.

With regard to receipts… I had a similar issue. Bank Statements, Invoices and printed copies of cheques are not sufficient. Get your people to sign, date and indicate "Paid In Full".

    Hello Stella,

You can still get them @ Staples (if this is what you mean by "clicker"):

    http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=&webid=12367&affixedcode=WW

Or if the link does not work use "Staples Tally Counter" as a key "word" for your search parameter.
