PamPam BrowneMemberFor anyone who is interested. I finally got fed up with doing my own payroll so I contacted a company called payworks. They will do the payroll, submit all required deductions to the gov't (except WCB), deposit pay into accounts directly and do ROE at the end of the year or the termination of employee. The cost is resonable. Also for every person who signs on with payworks they will make a 25.00 donation to F.E.A.T. of B.C.
Cost info:
Payroll per run 12.50
per employee 1.25
ROE's 1.25
One time set up fee 25.00
Year end service per run 12.50
per tax form 1.25Contact Kiran Nagra @ 604-460-2862
remember to say that you are with Families for Early autism treatment and you want them to donate the 25.00Pam BrowneMemberSubject: North Vancouver School District Panel Discussion re Inclusion – June3rd, 7 – 9pm, LMCC Important meeting for parents and others supporting children with special needs – June 3rd, 7 – 9pm, Leo Marshall Curriculum Centre, North Vancouver Hopes and Fears for the Practice of the Inclusion of Students with Special Needs in the Province and the School District The Education and Programs Standing Committee of the North Vancouver School District is hosting a panel discussion on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7pm moderated by Assistant Superintendent Larry Johnson. Dr. Pat Mirenda (UBC), Ingrid Jeffrey (Mediated Learning Academy) and district employees, Arleene Ewing, Julie Parker, Todd Henderson and Marcia Garries will each make a brief statement regarding their hopes and fears for inclusion in the North Vancouver School District and in public schools in BC as a whole. The audience will have a chance to ask questions which will be directed to specific panel members by the Moderator. This will be a good opportunity to hear about future directions for inclusion in North Vancouver and to inquire about teacher preparation, professional services, levels of student support for next year, specialized programs or other questions you may have. It could also be a time to share whether you feel that current inclusion practices provide a good education for your son or daughter and how they might be improved. PamPam BrowneMemberPosting for another Parent….
SEA-Autism URGENTLY required for Langley School District.
Certification as SEA would help, but is not the most important criteria. Experience in ABA and the ability to assist with high school curriculum are the most important qualities for the candidate. You would be assisting a high functioning, happy and humorous young man. He has no challenging behaviors to deal with. Your focus would be on assisting with school work, communication and socialization.
If you have ABA experience and can cope with high school curriculum and have been thinking of moving into the schools to work as an SEA-Autism, please reply in confidence to aba35team@gmail.com.
Thank you.
Pam BrowneMemberHi everyone,
This weekend a fellow FEAT member and myself were choosen to attend a BCACL event. The event was to speak about advocacy. There was one part of the weekend that spoke strongly to both of us and I just thought I would share it with you.We had a parent panel and there was the well dressed stunning little old lady that entered the room. As it turns out she is the person they refer to as the Grandmother of Community Living. In our not too distant past there was an institution called Woodlands, we saw a video of this place that would have housed, among other children and adults, children with autism. These children slept 17 to a room with no privacy at all. They were tied to their beds at night and for most of them feed in their beds in the morning. Some wore helmets and sat in the corner and banged their heads against the wall and others sat tied to chairs or rails for the day. The lucky ones got some speach and OT therapy, but these were few. Woodlands housed over 1000 people.
This little old lady, named Jo Dicky, had a child that was in Woodlands and it was her and few other parent that were instrumental in closing down Woodlands and taking children with disabilities back into the community.
I started to think about where my son would be without advocates like Mrs. Dickey. And where would my child be without ABA and funding? Without the money and the medically necissary ABA treatment would my son, who is in grade 2 at his local school, be a candidate for Woodlands?
It is soo important to learn about the past for our children with autism and to not forget. Families and people who have fought for our childrens rights such as the Auton and Hewko families and financial contributors to the court cases, Sabrina Freeman and Jean Lewis and all the others who have stood up to make a difference.
We must all band together to support FEAT in the movement forward. If you don't have the time to support then a donation to FEAT would be great. If you don't have the money then offer your time. There is something that all of us can do to help.
Finally, we must all be aware that unless we continue things could change for the worse. There are still institutions in Canada. There are only two Provinces in our country that DO NOT have institutions. If the funding was pulled where would you be? Please support FEAT in fighting for your childs rights to medically necissary autism treatment.
Thanks
Pam BrowneMemberSeeking an individual who is interested in leading a group of children, some with autism and some without, in a social recreational ABA based program. This individual would need to have a background in ABA and be interested in organizing recreation games and social acitivities for a 1 night a week, 1 hour session. The location is Langley City/Brookswood area school gymnasium. All children with autism would be supported by their own aide. Anyone interested in the position or interested in hearing more about it please e-mail pammybrowne@hotmail.com with your background and any questions you may have.

Thank-youPam BrowneMemberFor anyone in the Langley School District. The upcoming meetings put on by LTA, CUPE and Langley DPAC are coming up. It is really important that we have parents come and speak to the panel about their childs need for ABA integrated and supported in the classroom. ABA trained TA's and support for Home Consultants. THis is a great opportunity to be heard and if we don't speak up The school district will believe that what they are doing is enough. You can call Susan Fonseca or Gail Chaddock-Costello at 604-533-1618 to book a time to speak. You can prepare a written submission and present it or if you cannot make it you can email your submission to specialed@langleyteachers.org. Please take the time to be heard!
