This is what I know, my child who is also very effected with Autism is doing very well in a classroom enviroment. He has a desk set up with all of the other Grade 1 children, when things are over his head he goes within that same classroom to another desk and works on his ABA programs. He doesn't need to go to the resourse room or the hallway. He has a very skilled ABA Support Worker, our Consultant is in weekly to update programs and check on progress.

We have worked so very hard for inclusion, we have come so very far. I repect those of you who feel it's necessary to have your child in a different enviroment other than the one my son is in. He however is loved by all the children in his class, he is learning from typical peers. If he were to be placed in a class with all Autistic children, I am pretty sure he would pick up alot of behaviours that would be unacceptable to my husband and I.

The research is clear that if you put these children all together their behaviours increase and their language will decrease. This is not the path I would choose for my child, so with that said, make the decision that's best for YOURS, but not for MINE!! Anyone who is acting in a role that works closely with any school district had best keep this in mind.

I am totally against segreagation, he will go to our neighbourhood school just like every other child in my neighbourhood. I will not commute, shipping him off to who knows where.

Please have repect for my opinion and what is best for my child.

November 15th is election day, let's make sure we get out and vote for the school trustee's that are putting children's rights before unions!

    ***********Surrey School District #36********

    FEAT parents have been out to the all candidates school trustee meetings and we have found the existing board of trustee's to be putting the needs of children first. I would like to personally endorce candidates from The Surrey Education Team;

    Dantzer, Alex
    Glass, Pam
    Jefferson, Wayne
    Masi, Reni
    Wilson, Shawn

    Hillsdon, Paul – Independant

We asked Laurie Larson – trustee candidate from the SCC Team (Surrey Civic Coalition) who's right trump who's, the children or the union worker. Her exact words were, unfortunatley the rights of the CUPE worker and could nothing to change that, this was printed in The Surrey leader!

Let's vote for candidates who have the best interest of our children first!

    Regarding Stefan,
We cannot support this hunger strike, do people realize he is diabetic and he will die!!!!!!!!!!!
This family needs legal assistance to help get their son into the treatment that he desperatly needs. Stefan needs to go home and we need to step up and help him fight this matter the smart way. His wife is at home caring for Simon, what about her, she must be going through hell right now while he starves himself to death. What good is that going to do for Simon if his father is 6 feet under.. There are parents who are working on this as we speak, plans are being made, email Jean if you are willing to help, this hunger strike is going to kill him, he will be top in the news for a day and then everyone will go back to their lives, except his family!!!

This chat board is meant to discuss science based treatment, ABA, period. I think we all get that right? I know many great families who do ABA AND biomedical treatment. It's your right as a parent to do what is best for your child and only you can decide on that! I have been advised that the Autism Society chat board is the place to discuss other forms of treatment such as biomedical. Why not use that resourse instead of fighting each other on this chat board. Frankly I am tired of both sides going at it, after all aren't we supposed to be in this together. Let's respect each other and realize this is not the place to discuss it!

    Respectfully,

    Roxanne Black

Are there any parents out there that have their #1 child dignosed with autism but maybe their #2 or #3 hasn't been. If so..did you do anything differently with the 2nd/3rd…ie: maybe decided not to vaccinate? I really need to know if there are any out there. Please email me privately at bradrox@shaw.ca..

    Thank you!

    Hi Debra!!
I know that parents who request an ABA Support Worker are supposed to have an ABA program running in their home. I don't think these children can survive in school without the proper programming!

Gone are the days that our children are tossed in the segregation room and forgotten about. My little guy is very affected with Autism and the school is amazed at what he can do..thanks to a good consultant and ABA. We have definately raised the bar and our expectations are high. My husband and I met with the Superintendant of the Surrey School District yesturday and told him just that!! God help them if they try and mess with our ABA Support Workers and what our children need. The time is now to push back…not let them intimidate you into thinking they are doing us a huge favor by allowing qualified workers into the school with our children. It's about time they did the right thing..parents and their kids have suffered in this system far too long. ABA is their core health need, the bar has been raised for our kids because we as parents have pushed for it.

If parents don't advocate for what our children need who the h— will. Our kids count on us to get aggressive (even if it's not our nature) to push and to not accept mediocre!!!

Hewko works…. A huge thanks to the Hewko family, FEAT (Jean and Sabrina) and all the other's who played a role. We owe you a debt of gratitude!!

I just want to back up the previous post regarding Hewko. My little boy is in fulltime kindergarten in Surrey and has received everything he needs thanks to Hewko. He is probably the only child in a full day kindergarten program in all of Surrey, thanks to Hewko. We have a fully qualified ABA Support Worker, thanks to Hewko. My Support Worker receives an extra 1/2 hour a day for data taking, thanks to Hewko. No one from the Surrey School District wanted him there full time but I knew the law (thanks to Nicole Kaeler – fellow parent) and I knew it was his right as a child diagnosed with Autism. He is thriving in the full day program!!! He has his ABA table set up with all of his ABA programs, when he cannot participate in the regular curriculum he goes and does his ABA table work. He is not sent to the segregation room AKA the Rainbow room, I'm sure you all know what I am talking about. I used Hewko every step of the way and I never threatened, I came up with a plan along with my Consultant Sharon Baxter and we didn't take no for an answer. But I always referred to Hewko and promised that I would consult a lawyer if the rights of my child's health core needs and educational needs were being threatnend. People you no longer have to put up with mediocre… Everyone needs to realize that your child has rights, thanks to Hewko it can be obtained. And yes Hewko benefits all children on the spectrum, it doesn't matter if your child is high functioning or low funtioning!! They need what they need period…..
