CHANGE OF ROOM FOR FEATBC SENIOR WORKSHOP!
Regarding the FEATBC Senior Workshop on March 25th, 2006:
Please note- due to scheduling difficulties, there has been a change
of room for this workshop! The room listed on the registration form
will NOT be where the workshop is located- please do not go to that
room! While we are at the same address, we are in a different part of the
building- on the 'Guilford Recreation' side of the building.Room: Craftsroom #2
Directions:
proceed to walk away from the espresso bar towards the opposite
entrance into the building. When you are almost at the doors, you will
see a hallway (opposite the washrooms) where a sign reading
'Craftsroom #1' will be posted. The very next room in this hallway is
Craftsroom #2 where we will be located. Please forward this information on to anyone who is coming to the
workshop- we will also have signs posted but want to make sure that
everyone gets to the correct location!Thank you so much for your patience in this matter,
Theresa Tournemille

Here is valuable information regarding the LIFE (Lovaas Clinic) Consulting services. Apparently many of you have been contacting their office.
Hi Sabrina,
As discussed with you earlier, the East Coast office of the Lovaas
Institute may have a consultant available to travel to the Vancouver
area for consultations. However, in order to determine whether we
can make that happen, I need to know how many families are sincerely
interested in receiving services through us. Please have them email
the following information to my intake coordinator, Amy Golden, at
agolden@lovaas.com. The consultant may not be available for much
longer, so I need to receive inquiries from all families by Monday,
March 20th.parent's name
address
phone number
email address
child's name
child's date of birth
desired frequency of consultation (monthly, every other month)
desired length of consultationAmy will email the families an information packet, let them know what
additional information we need, and schedule an intake phone
interview. Based upon the number of families and staff availability,
we will then determine how many families we can serve. We will also
then initiate the process of getting the consultant a work visa,
using the families as "sponsors."I hope we can be of help!

My son is newly diagnosed with Autism and I am considering starting a program with the ABA Learning center in Richmond.
If any parents are familiar with this program, I would appreciate your comments good or bad.
Thanks

I shared this with our ABA team last week. Hope it will bring a smile to you…
Lately my 5yr5mo-old son N has been playing with a girl C at school during recess and lunch time. He has been helping C climb up the climber at the playground…and play other things together. They laugh and "talk"… sometimes with other classmates, sometimes not. Sometimes N guided C by putting his arm close to C's back, like an adult guiding a child, or a gentleman guiding a lady.
Today the girl C went to the teacher after lunch recess and said "MRS W, I WANT TO MARRY N WHEN I AM OLDER". Mrs W told me this when I picked up my son.
This brought a smile to our entire family when we heard this. We all know N has come a long way, after 19 months of intensive therapy. Your hard work shows in N's progress in his speech and language, communication skills, play skills, peer play/ social skills…. Without his home program and everyone's hard work to follow thru and generalize, I can't see how he could have gone so far.
My husband and I wanted to thank you for your commitment to teach and help N. You are making a difference in N's life. You have helped not only N but our entire family, and much more than you can imagine!!
Our junior consultant is Bernadette Marzo, senior consultant was Lisa Wincz. We have a wonderful team of great lead therapist and awesome line therapists.

February 10, 2006 at 8:24 pm #371Barbara RodriguesParticipantHi Everyone:
Just a reminder about this must see workshop with a world class presenter! Early bird registration is coming to a close! I encourage everyone to get out and see this workshop. We really need to make an effort to get to these true ABA workshops with some of the top people in the field – if we don't then unfortunately they will cease which would really be a great loss for our kids – our therapists. This is a must see workshop for both parents and therapists! See you there.

Hello Parents Some of you may know that Arbutus Coast Presentations will be bringing Dr. Gina Green to Vancouver on June 16. Ginas presentation setup will be quite interesting; she will be speaking on 4 topics and then fielding questions and commentary from the registrants (details are on our website http://www.arbutuscoast.com). It will be a great opportunity for parents and professionals alike to directly interact with one of the most respected scientists in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
We are especially interested in making sure that parents have a reasonable chance to see Gina in Vancouver; and we are also interested in ensuring that we will have enough registrants to warrant covering our costs associated with having her present here so, toward that end, we would like to offer the following exclusive price to parents and their therapists:
For the first 50 parents and their therapists registering by the end of February the fee is $100 per person ($75 less than the regular registration cost).
For the next 25 parents and their therapists registering by the end of March the fee is $135 per person ($40 less than the regular registration cost).
The usual 10% reduction in registration fee for previous attendees at an Arbutus Coast Presentation does not apply for this offer. This offer is not going to be publicized on the brochure or the website, and it is solely dependent on an honour system of registration. We do ask that the therapists (one-to-one behaviour interventionist/therapists) are, indeed working with a child diagnosed ASD, and obviously, that the parents have a child diagnosed with ASD. We know that many parents are dependent upon extended family members for care, and as such we will also recognize grandparents and other immediate family members for the reduced rate.
We are committed to bringing the best scientists to British Columbia for the sole purpose of sharing knowledge; we hope that you will support us in this endeavour.
Yours truly,
Larry Uhlin & Nancy Pike

December 18, 2005 at 1:15 am #216David ChanMemberJulia my ever so clever wife had this great idea, so this way I won't get accused of interlecual property theft yet again. OK now that we got the legals out of the way. Here is the idea.
We set up and account on MSN for Mr. P, got a bunch of his friends hotmail addresses as well. so we start to have them have conversations using MSN instant messenger. We don't use video, just typing.
he's done it a couple of times now, and what's happened is that it allows him time to proccess info, and respond, plus, you can be right next to him prompting, and the other party won't see the prompting which makes it a lot easier than a face to face conversation, when you are trying to prompt him.
The other part of the idea, is to print out the convesation transcript, that's easy to do, and let him role play himself to practice conversation.
the other really cool part is that MSN instant messenger is very age appropiate for him as a teenager, so, more social acceptance
Give it a try, and see what you guys think
Dave
Mr. P's dad, and yes it was Julia's ideaBest of the season everyone
