This article should be given to the family of every single newly-diagnosed child:
Autism treatment: Science hijacked to support alternative therapies
http://www.chicagotribune.com/health/chi-autism-science-nov23,0,240420.storyThese days, every treatment is promoted as "science-based" or "evidence-based." The providers get away with it because very few people can tell the difference between real science and hijacked science.
November 26, 2009 at 6:51 am #548Stacey ParsonMemberMy son was recently diagnosed with Autism (today, in fact) and I want to start an ABA program as soon as possible. Unfortunately I have no idea where to start. Does anyone know of a good ABA Consultant willing to work in the Abbotsford area? Any ideas on where I go from here? Thank you for any help you can provide! Please email me at jsparson@telus.net.

Please come and show your support tomorrow from noon-1pm. Come early to find parking and bring your umbrella and a picture of your kid!
Friday, November 13th, 2009
12:00 Noon
Premier Gordon Campbells Constituency Office
3615 West 4th Ave
Vancouver, BCWhy should you attend?
The recent tragic deaths of two Canadian children with autism, killed at the hands of their own parents, is a wake up call! The status quo is putting the health of children and their very lives in jeopardy.
Septembers announcement by the Ministry of Children and Family Development has shown that our government is not concerned about the rights and needs of some of its most vulnerable citizens.
No legislation or mandate exists to deliver health care to children with autism or to protect and enshrine their right to their medically necessary treatment. What little individualized funding being provided now is in jeopardy of being taken away.
Autism is an epidemic! According to the Center for Disease Control, it now affects one in every 100 children in North America.
It is time for our provincial government to recognize its responsibility to act and to demonstrate leadership for the rest of Canada!
Who should attend?
-parents, grandparents, friends, consultants, therapists, anyone who is concerned about this injustice to our children. We urge you all to attend this rally!
November 12, 2009 at 6:45 pm #551Stella LiParticipantThanks Nancy and the nice, smart, funny and… Tony!
Info to add:
There will be video presentations of some of the ASBC North Shore lectures for parents who cannot attend in the evenings but can come out during the day. The videos will be presented at the ASBC Burnaby Support Group meetings which is held once a month on a Friday morning. For details go to http://www.autismbc.ca – forum.
p.s. I think that all ABA parents are fantastic, wonderful, awesome… We have unusal endurance, courage, strength… When we work together, we could multiply our strengths as a team to win the marathon!!! Let's work together…
November 12, 2009 at 7:08 am #552Dione CostanzoParticipantHi Everyone,
I am looking for feedback for a new parent who is setting up a home based ABA program for her 5 year old son and is evaluating the following consultants:
Krista Zambolin and Anna Matchneva
She would appreciate any information or experience working with these consultants that anyone has to share. Please email me at dionec@shaw.ca

November 12, 2009 at 1:18 am #554Super DadParticipantIn additional to what Nancy has written, I should point out that the ASBC also fully endorses the ABA Support Network. Due to a lack of volunteers in the area, we have had to discontinue ASBC meetings in Surrey, and I have felt anxious about many families being too far away to attend North Shore lectures. I was therefore very happy to see the start of the ABA Support Network meetings.
For November, both groups have invited very knowledgeable professionals as guest speakers. If its hard for you to choose, then I should tell you something about the facilitators: The ones in the North Shore group are way nicer, way smarter, way funnier and way-way-way sexier. Youre guaranteed to enjoy being there.

ASBC volunteer Eye CandyNovember 11, 2009 at 6:53 pm #555Nancy WaltonParticipantI'd just like to point out that ASBC and the ABA Support Network know that their meetings have occured on the same date. When the ABA Support Network booked our meetings, we were not aware that the ASBC planned their meetings for the third Tuesday of each month. From December onwards, the ABA SN meetings will be on the second Tuesday of each month. So our meetings will no longer coincide and parents will be able to attend both.
We also would have prefered that the meetings were not on the same weekday, but we were unable to book space on any other weekday.
The ABA Support Network fully endorses the ASBC meetings and we encourage parents to attend as many of both our meetings as possible to get educated and get connected to other parents.
