Hi all parents,
I really want to share my current experience with you with a great dentist and anesthesiologist after my 9 year old son got his dental treatment today. I had struggled a lot with dental issue for my son and had gone on this website many times with questions. I finally took on the suggestion from a family who had experience with this great dentist and found that it was the absolute right decision to move my son from the very well know PDG in Vancouver (as some of you may know) to this dentist who is also a pediatric dentist and could find the big difference. The dental treatment for my son which took me a great deal of waiting time with the previous one then had been scheduled and done within a couple weeks.
Parents, please don't waste your time if you heard from any PDG about a 3 months wait to do the general anesthetic at the Children Hospital and an unknown time of when the surgery will be done until a day in advance. I found this dentist who was able to schedule a time for my son as soon as I had decided to go for it. And most important of all, the dentist and the anesthesiologist did the work with their hearts. They were very kind and patience to us. I don't think you will find better place and more affordable to go. You can contact me if you would like their contact information. I can be reached at tnkaccount@gmail.comTrinh/Tina

Our daughter is 5 years old and just loves swimming.
Can anyone kindly recommend a swimming instructor who would be able to provide private lessons and has experience with children on the spectrum.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated,

This hands on workshop encompasses these topics as well as capturing learning moments in play and different types of play. Throughout the workshop participants will be building a tool box of creative ideas and stimuli to take with them! These workshops will give fundamental knowledge without going into specific teaching strategies (such as Discrete Trial or Fluency) allowing anyone working with any ABA consultant or group to benefit.

It was especially gratifying to see so many new faces in the crowd. We did manage to leave some of our literature in the Premier's mail box so that, one way or another, our message will get out to him. And don't forget your "homework" assignment – to write, phone, email or otherwise bombard the Premier's office and demand that science-based treatment for autism be covered under our medical services plan in it's entirety.
Thanks again for a great effort today!
November 13, 2009 at 5:16 am #5735Dione CostanzoParticipantFEAT RALLY TOMORROW! – FRIDAY 13th
Please come and show your support tomorrow from noon-1pm. Come early to find parking and bring your umbrella and a picture of your kid!
Friday, November 13th, 2009
12:00 Noon
Premier Gordon Campbells Constituency Office
3615 West 4th Ave
Vancouver, BCWhy should you attend?
The recent tragic deaths of two Canadian children with autism, killed at the hands of their own parents, is a wake up call! The status quo is putting the health of children and their very lives in jeopardy.
Septembers announcement by the Ministry of Children and Family Development has shown that our government is not concerned about the rights and needs of some of its most vulnerable citizens.
No legislation or mandate exists to deliver health care to children with autism or to protect and enshrine their right to their medically necessary treatment. What little individualized funding being provided now is in jeopardy of being taken away.
Autism is an epidemic! According to the Center for Disease Control, it now affects one in every 100 children in North America.
It is time for our provincial government to recognize its responsibility to act and to demonstrate leadership for the rest of Canada!
Who should attend?
-parents, grandparents, friends, consultants, therapists, anyone who is concerned about this injustice to our children. We urge you all to attend this rally!
November 12, 2009 at 7:09 pm #5736Jaswant SinghParticipantTo all parents who are familiar with navigating the Vancouver School Board system: My 7 year old son and I really need YOUR HELP and guidance.
We have tried working with the VSB system and their generic SSW support personnel but we have achieved minimal success. To date, despite my son being officially registered as a full-day Grade 1 student, the school has kept him from attending even until noon. Since September, he has been attending only until recess each morning (~quarter days). The exception occurred last week when the regular SSW was away sick for a week and they brought in a substitute SSW who then supported my son until noon. Fortunately, the school also allowed my Lead therapist to visit at the same time and she helped the substitute SSW establish an effective routine. My sons teacher acknowledges that this one week was a very successful one for my son. I now know that my son can be productively engaged in educational activities at school when given the right support. I have tried working with the principal on this issue but he appears unwilling to acknowledge and accommodate the fact that his cadre of SSWs are ill-equipped to effectively support my son.
What do I need to do to bring about a change that will see my son properly supported at school preferably by one of my ABA therapists? I know that at least one other parent has successfully managed to do this. Who should I talk to next at the VSB if I cant get anywhere with the school principal? Please advise. I would so very much appreciate your help with this. I feel so stressed, hurt, angry and outraged by how my son has been marginalized and "written-off" by his school that I have to do something about it. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Jaswant RanuPS. I recall coming across a quote a few years back that said something to the effect that "the true measure of a democracy is in its treatment of its most disadvantaged citizens." Does anyone know who said this and what were the actual words?? I'd like to use this statement in the letters that I am preparing to send. Thanks again.

Louise Witt, FEAT Spokesperson, and Jean Lewis of Medicare for Autism Now! will be discussing the upcoming rally at the Premiers office. This rally is about providing necessary healthcare and its purpose is to keep pressure on Government for full science-based autism treatment, thereby ending discrimination against people with autism
