Just a reminder to all that the deadline for the 2009 RDSP contributions is quickly approaching. Dec 31st is the last day to contribute if you want to take advantage of the Federal Government matching grants and bonds.
If you are on social assistance, you may be eligible for a $150 grant from the Vancouver Foundation. http://www.endowment150.ca/apply.htm
If you need more information about this excellent savings plan, please refer to the following page for more information.

Autism Funding in BC
http://asdfunding.comDecember 8, 2009 at 6:23 pm #5719Pam BrowneMemberI have been meaning to post this for awhile and due to recent, very sad, events I thought I better do it now.
I recently attended a workshop on safety for children with autism and from it I found most useful something called "project lifesaver" you can google that and will get the site. It is a device that can be worn and is monitored by the local police. You are given a number for you divice and if your child or elderly parent goes missing they can track the person through radio waves. The reason the presenter thought this was the best system is because if the child climbs into somthing GPS will not always locate them. Also, as a huge selling point to the local authorities is the amount of money that is saved on search efforts and the acuracy of the equipment.
The presenter at the conference said there is already a presentation made that you can take to your local police. I have not had time to search it out but I did see it at the conference and it looked quite good to me.

The Canadian Press
SOUTH BAR, N.S. A search is underway today for an autistic boy who wandered away from his home in rural Cape Breton without a winter coat, as an early winter storm hit the island.
Seven-year-old James Delorey was apparently following the familys dog when he walked into the woods near South Bar at around 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Police say the brown-haired boy, who weighs about 60 pounds, was wearing dark jeans, a blue plaid shirt and a grey-coloured vest.
The temperature was cold early Sunday and winds were gusting and wet snow falling as the storm made its way eastwards to Newfoundland.
Several hours after the search started on Saturday, military officials in Halifax dispatched a Cormorant helicopter from Canadian Forces Base Greenwood, while boats searched the east side of Sydney harbour as well.
However, Staff Sgt. Ken ONeill, a spokesman for Cape Breton Regional Police, said at noon on Sunday that there was no change in the status of the search about 10 kilometres north of Sydney.December 5, 2009 at 7:48 am #5722Super DadParticipantNorth Shore ASBC Lecture Series
