October 4, 2000 at 6:38 am #5816Deleted UserMemberHello everyone,
I have a question regarding training new members to join an existing team. I am wondering what sort of training process others have found effective ie: how much time spent shadowing, how to know when a new therapist is ready to jump in, what other steps have helped.
We do not have a Sr. therapist (I have that role). We have had a sr. therapist come and assist us in improving therapy but as she is not part of our team it is difficult to arrange for her to come regularly.
thanks

The FEAT BC web site has been upgraded recently — many thanks to our intrepid volunteer, Attila Odry for his terrific web design work! We invite everyone to take a tour of the new and improved site (https://featbc.org).
For anyone who missed media coverage of the landmark BC Supreme Court decision … and August 25 BC government Notice of Appeal, the revamped FEAT BC Site has TV news clips (including BCTV), streaming radio news (such as CBCs As it Happens), as well as newspaper and newsmagazine articles from the Vancouver SUN, regional papers and Maclean's.

August 30, 2000 at 4:46 am #5810Linda CucekMemberMy Lawyer has accepted my Human Rights case regarding my 16 year old son with autism.
16 years with insufficient supports!
He says it may take up to one year but at least I have a lawyer to help me fight my battles and advocate for James now. I am not alone anymore.
I feel all of us parents that want the Lovaas treatment should help one another out. We will
become more powerful in numbers to fight the
decision of appeal made by Dosanjh.Linda Cucek James' mom
PS We should all write a letter to the government about how appauled we are regarding
Dosanjh appealing the Supreme Court.August 29, 2000 at 1:14 am #5809David and Barbara McLeodMemberHi Everyone,
CBC Victoria called today to ask me to be interviewed tomorrow am at 7:40 re: the Supreme Court Ruling, the government's appeal and Lovaas treatment. Wish me luck!!
Isaac, thanks for keeping us posted on all media pieces – Bill Good interviews,Maclean's etc. It is great to get all of this to share. Sabrina – thanks for your knowledge and commitment. You were so clear on the Bill Good show. He is a wonderful ally.
Folks, if you have not already done so, please consider calling your local media and telling them that you are an ABA family in their area that is effected and "not amused" by this government's lack of support and decision to appeal the Supreme Court judgement. Give them the internet site so they can review the judgement and a copy of the press releases, too.(Thanks, Avery – your commitment shines through) Give this judgement the personal face of your
child. An idea to share. Our son Alex will be 7 on Sunday. We have rented the local pool for a swim party and are inviting the kids in kindergarten class from last year to the party. We want Alex to see them all again before the start of school. We have also invited our older son's friends to an "end of summer" swim at the same time. We have decided to go with a "no gifts, please" designation on the invitation and, instead, are having a donations to AES box in lieu of gifts. I sent along a copy of the AES brochure with the invitations. We feel this helps parents of kids in Alex's class understand autism better, understand our program a little and become aware of the goals of AES.
August 25, 2000 at 6:14 am #5808Sharon BaxterParticipantHi All,
I just discovered a place to buy a good set of wooden blocks for the block imitation program. They are large sized and come in varied colours. If you've ever tried to purchase a set you will understand what a find this is. Ikea has a set for $4.95, they just came in with the new catalogue. You can also order a good set through the Sears catalogue but these are more expensive and not as large as the ones from Ikea.
Happy Block Imitation, Sharon Baxter
