September 3, 2001 at 12:39 am #5945Sharon BaxterParticipantI am responding to the message posted by Taryn Grant regarding a "scrub brush" intervention. I unfortunately have had the experience of applying this procedure on a child with autism. The child became overly stimulated to the point that the child's stim behaviours escalated, exactly opposite the desired response. This procedure has no validity as an effective intervention for children with autism. Looking at scientific data would be a more appropriate place to find information on "brushing" than on this board. Besides this intervention being illogical it wastes valuable time that could be spend on effective desensitization.

September 1, 2001 at 1:02 am #5943Sabrina FreemanParticipantHello Feat BC members!
We need some volunteers for two projects — one person for each project.
FEAT project #1 needs someone who is good at searching databases, perhaps a student or former student would knows this kind of research.
FEAT project #2 needs someone who can contact people by phone for very simple verification work; this can easily be done entirely from home.
Anyone interested in helping out, please give us a call at: FEAT BC 604-534-6956.
Thanks,
Sabrina
August 31, 2001 at 6:42 am #5942Jenny ObandoMemberHello , I am in the process of setting up an ABA Lovaas type program , through WEAP and their consultants that are coming to Vancouver.
I am trying to find volunteer to work as therapist , any suggestions?. Also if anyone has any input in how to set up a program or any helpfull steps. My son is 3 and quite funtioning, we lived in Maple Ridge, so maybe if someone knows of any resources close to the area it would really help .
I am also trying to get individualized funding so any suggestions or direccions would be very helpfull, I already sent letters to the chain of command at the MCF and my MLA.
Thanks Jenny (Tristen's mom )

divedoc@telus.netAugust 31, 2001 at 12:11 am #5940Cindy & BrunoMemberThanks to all that responded to our question as to whether or not there is an assosiation in British Columbia, set up to help childeren that have been damaged by the mmr shot. There does'nt seem to be one, but judging from the great number of responses there should be. There is one set up in Manitoba and I think there is also one in Ontario.
thanks Cindy amd BrunoAugust 30, 2001 at 8:06 pm #5939Carol RameyMemberHelp Please!
We have a meeting on Tuesday afternoon with
our school district's (# 68) Director of
Education. We will be making a case to have
one of the ABA qualified aides in our district
being assigned to our son. Right now he has
been assigned to someone with no ABA
background, but more union seniority than the
ABA qualified aides. We did manage to get
ABA put into the job posting, but the personnel
manager did not consider it a job
"requirement". We need to convince the
Director that we need to assign a qualified
aide over one with union seniority.I need anything I can use to strengthen my
case in this meeting. I would love to hear of
any precidents, case law, arguments, policies,
loopholes, bribes, cudgels :-), etc. that others
have used in this situation.Carol Ramey (Benton's Mom)
