Hi all!
A very interesting e-mail came in that I would like to share with the group since some of you may be affected by this development.
A class action lawsuit was filed May 14 in Ontario regarding the relationship between DPT vaccine and autism. Specifically, a drug company is being sued over the alleged relationship between the mercury content that was in their vaccine at one time and the onset of autism. The Klein-Lyons law firm in Vancouver is organizing this class action.
The representative plaintiff is a child with autism. If you feel your child was injured by the DPT vaccine and subsequently was diagnosed with autism, you may want to contact this law firm for more information. They can be reached at Ph. 604-874-7171.
Sabrina
*Please note: to my knowledge, this DPT related action is unrelated to the ongoing research regarding the MMR vaccine and autism.

May 7, 2002 at 1:31 am #4420Michelle WeisMemberI am responding to the Laurel group comment. Yes, I would also be very suprised if a contracted organization funded by the government would have an experienced ABA worker with them. If they did that would be wonderful, but if it smells bad it probably is. At the same time, would someone experienced in Lovaas work at the Laurel Group? I doubt not. At least not the therapists that I have known.
Ask for his Cv. See how long he worked in California and actually phone UCLA and check on his referenece. I have had that experience in the past and when I checked it out that person had never gone to school or worked in the clinic there.
Most of all, as parents we need to be educated as to what is (pardon me) crap and what isn't. Unfortunately everyone has to go through alot of crap to get to a decent treatment program. I believe when you are impowered with education on treatments for autism as well as a good network system you save your child alot of quality learning time.
FEAT does a splendid job at keeping families networked and fully informed. (much more than most provinces) Parents are much stronger when you are informed and in unity rather than divided.
Check it out and if he has been trained at the Lovaas clinic than find out why he left and why he chose to work at the Laurel group.Michelle
May 6, 2002 at 6:42 pm #4419Deleted UserMemberHi there, I know this is "off topic" but here is a autism link about homeschool. I am not homeschooling my child, but I thought it would be great to those looking into to it or wondering about it. http://www.homeschoolzone.com/add/autism.htm
Thanks!
May 4, 2002 at 4:09 am #4418Deleted UserMemberHi there, I have never posted to this board before. I have been a member for a few months now since my son was diagnosed last fall.
I have the Time Magazine link about autism here if you all wish to read it. http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101020506/scautism.html Thanks again
May 3, 2002 at 9:27 pm #4417Deleted UserMemberI have a hard time believing that anyone at the Laurel Group has any experience with Lovaas. If I were you, I would phone down to UCLA and ask for references on this person. And UCLA isn't a replication site — UCLA is the ORIGINAL site.
May 3, 2002 at 8:22 pm #4416Sheila HotraMemberHi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Laurel Group (the me-2-program). I had a meeting with a new consultant, Nicholas Watkins, who has worked at the UCLA replication site(He has been with Laurel group since Dec/01). I would be interested in hearing about any experience, good or bad.Feel free to email me at shotra@shaw.ca or phone Sheila at 552-3810. Thank you.

The recipe for Goo is:
2/3 cup warm water
11/2 teaspoon powdered Borax
3 drops food coloring
– Mix together in a measuring cup using a wooden spoon.Glue Solution:
3/4 cup warm water
1 cup white school glue
– Mix together in a mixing bowl using a wooden spoon.
Pour the borate solution into the bowl with the glue solution. Using your hands, gently lift and turn the mixture until only one tablespoon of liquid is left. When the excess liquid is dried off it is ready. It can be stored in a plastic bag in the fridge.
Hope this is what you were looking for!Christina
