Hey Barb:
Something's better than nothing, don't you think? And I did say we should get ready for the next phase of the fight, didn't I?

June 6, 2002 at 1:06 am #4441David ChanMemberThrowing the old man a bone.
The boy is been sick like a duck these last
three days, hacking and coughing his little
guts out. Stayed home from school. Had to
pick up sister from school. oy
Yesterday, had an aquaintance call extolling
the virtues or Vitamin threapy for kids on the
team, but I digressHad to pick up some last minute groceries
before dinner. I gotta tell you guys I am just
wiped with looking after these guys, and just
losing my mind. So we get back from the
store. I open the front door and walked in.I wait, and wait, hey where are the kids?
the last thing I said was help your sister out of
her car seat.Well, what do you know I look out the front
window, and the kids are at the trunk of the
car getting the groceries out.I didn't open the trunk, I just walked in the front
door. Frankly, I had forgotten all about the stuff
in the trunk. I ask the typical one, I says, "did
you tell him to get the stuff or what?"She responded by saying "he just used his
brain, I didn't help him."Regardless of how reliable the 5 year old is,
The boy threw the old man an ENORMOUS
bone. It is absolutely a thing of beauty to see
things gel in this kid's life.Just when you are the most tired, run down,
and even a little dejected. The kid throws you
a bone, and you pick it all up and do this ABA
stuff all over again.THANKS kid, I love you!

I'm so happy about this new turn of events, even though my son is too old to receive the benefit.
Good luck to all you parents with young ones!
Thank you Sabrina, Jean and others at FEAT, and let's hunker down for the next stage of the fight!

June 5, 2002 at 12:12 am #4438Claire SpencerMemberHi. We live in Cowichan Bay on the Island and our son, who is 4 1/2, is on the School Transition Year Plan (formerly the Kindergarten Transition Plan). It was funding in the amount of $7,500/fiscal year. We have the option of staying on that plan by itself, staying and topping up to the magical $1,667/month, or switching to the new plan (deposit of up to $1,667 to an account set up in trust in our son's name). Personally, I like the top up option as there is less restriction as to "eligible expenses" in the STY Plan. For example, we could spend up to 10% ($750) on equipment, as well as fund therapies such as music therapy, therapeutic riding, etc. The new plan doesn't look as flexible – at least as it stands now. The way things change, who knows what it will be like a few months down the road.
I'd really like to know what they are planning on doing after March/03.

June 4, 2002 at 11:21 pm #4437Anna AquinoMemberHi Dave!
I got the information packet in the mail today as well. $1,667 seems to be the magic number…well at least for the interim dates of June 2002 up until March 2003. So it looks to me like a definite attempt at standardisation. It says somewhere though that if you have a current contract that you can maintain it or enhance it. (whatever that means) Anyways, I'm calling my social worker first thing tommorrow.
Our son is 2.5 years and we have no previous funding at all. In fact, we are only starting with our ABA therapy at the end of this month. From the looks of it, the money won't be enough to cover for all expenses but my family and I are simply grateful that there is some tangible support out there, eh? :-) Every little bit helps.
Good luck….to us all. LOL! Take care.
Warmly,
ANNAJune 4, 2002 at 10:49 pm #4436David & Lori DiSantoMemberHello everyone,
We just got a notice from the government regarding changes in funding. Right now we have a contract with the government until the end of June for $1,800/month. The new stuff we got in the mail seems to be for a long-term contract for $1,667/month.
From what we've heard in the past there has been very little standardisation in terms of funding… many people seem to be getting different amounts. I just want to know if that $1,667 is a number that others are getting.
Is this more than most? Less? Thanks.
DaveOur son is 3 years old (no transition funds etc).

Hours are very flexable and experience is required. Please phone 604-864-0894 or 604-308-3438 and ask for Shelley.
