July 12, 2013 at 6:12 pm #6506Dione CostanzoParticipantHi everyone! Just want to follow up on my post below and share the information I got.
Thanks to those that responded. Here is a summary of the comments:
3 parents responded that when they switched consultants the new consultant observed the current programming before making decisions about its effectiveness and then making changes as needed. 1 parent commented this observation was used as a baseline for the new consultant to work from.
2 parents responded that they kept all programming when they switched and agreed to keep it confidential (not share it with other families).
3 parents responded it depends on why you are switching consultants. If you are switching because behaviors are up and learning is down then it might be beneficial to start from scratch but a new consultant would still need to evaluate where your child is at.
2 parents responded that all your childs data belongs to you.
My view is that you have paid to have the programming written and it is supposed to be tailored to your childs needs so a request to give it back or don't use it doesnt seem reasonable. It does make sense that a new consultant would do some kind of observation and make changes and re-vamp things as they use various data collection and reporting methods.
A unanimous response was it is all about the QUALITY of your consultant!
July 11, 2013 at 6:19 pm #6507Dione CostanzoParticipantI am looking for feedback on the following question(s) and it would be interesting to have both parents and professionals post their responses to this:
When there is a transition to a new behavior consultant for a an existing home based ABA program what happens with all the current programs and materials? Is the family back to square 1 and has to have all the programs rewritten?
Does anyone know of any published guidelines concerning this?
Thank you!
If you would like to remain anonymous email me at dionec@shaw.ca.

June 18, 2013 at 7:32 pm #6511Laurie GuerraParticipantAs I sit here with tears rolling down my cheeks, I am trying to think of the words to say to thank Sabrina and Jean for everything they have done.
I remember driving my non-verbal, autistic little boy to his first day of kindergarten, 13 years ago and today he drove himself to school for the last day! That was emotional in itself.
I have just come from the high school awards ceremony where my now 18 year old has just received three academic achievement awards! He was the top student in Biology 12, Physics 12 and Calculus 12.
I had no idea this was even possible back when we first got diagnosed. Thank you so much for pushing me in the right direction. I am so glad I listened and did the work.
Thanks ladies a million times over.
For all those of you still "in the trenches", remember, with treatment there is hope.
What a great day!
