January 9, 2003 at 6:20 am #5987Deleted UserMemberGreetings + Happy New Year
We are Tamara Leger + Anissa Lalani and we are the new co-facilitators of the North Shore Autism Society Community Group. We would like to invite you to join us for scintillating discussion around the following hot topics in Autism.
Our first meeting is next Monday January 13; 7-9pm at the West Van Library (Marine Dr + 20th). Our first topic is on Best Practices How to Start + Run an ABA Program: From Do It Yourself to Finding a Service Provider and Recruiting and Managing a Team.
We have assembled a high caliber Panel to discuss all issues around ABA, at all levels (high/low; older/younger; for how long; what do these "treated" kids look like 10 years down the line; Why should I/How can I; etc..). We also have parents of older kids who are bringing videos + stories to tell that will inspire and give hope and courage.
So again, come and bring your "hard-hitting" questions – all are welcome. Sure hope you can join us, and feel free to bring a friend!
Questions or comments: please email taml@telus.net or anissalalani@shaw.ca

January 9, 2003 at 5:33 am #5985Deleted UserMemberIt's really up to the consultant to make arrangements to be able to work up here. Technically they're not even working here since you're buying their services from their "home" offices in their own currency — they're just bringing their service up to you here and then returning home. The ones who do a lot of work up here or have moved here had to get visas, I believe. Anyway, it's still up to them to arrange — you can't do it for them.
January 9, 2003 at 5:21 am #5984Erik KnophMemberThis a plea for information from those parents or anyone who might have relevant information, on the how to bring in a foriegn consultant. I am trying to bring in a former therapist of ours from Australia who has just completed a masters in psychology with a specialization in child development and special education. Her qualifications are fantastic and her thesis was on the early diagnosis of autism in infants. She's had 8 years experience working directly with children with Autism. There shouldn't be any problems with experience, or education, but how is it done??? Could some of the parents who have brought up consultants from the United States, for instance, please contact me directly: lindaknoph@hotmail.com or if you wish to remain anonymous please pass the information on via "feat."
Many thanks, Linda Knoph
December 31, 2002 at 7:48 pm #4835David BridgesMemberHey everyone!
Happy New Year to you all!
At 2pm today, CNN (ch. 33 on the North Shore) will be showing a documentary entitled "Autism in America". Apparently the focus is on the (allegedly) growing incidence of autism in North America, and the reasons behind it.
Thought you all might be interested. I'll probably tape it for those who can't watch.

I don't presume to speak for all of us
interventionists. Truth is, you made the choice
of ABA intervention for your child, she certainly
didn't. So welcome to the club of
interventionists, I guess.X'mas morning was brilliant here. The
mayhem was just delightful. it was all so very
typical. That's why we take the time to intervene
Happy holidays all

Mr. P's DadDecember 25, 2002 at 1:28 am #4833Deleted UserMemberHi. Here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas…and a very happy holiday. Especially to all of our interventionists who have helped our daughter so much. You are awesome people, and we are so lucky there are people out there like you to work with our children. This christmas my daughter is actually fully aware of the holiday and excited. It's amazing to watch her.
