I also have GBC Creative laminator, from Staples. I have found it very useful. You can laminate letter and legal size documents.
I have used Mac Tac before and found it not as durable and more flimsy, also not waterproof, when taking items to the bath or pool. It depends what you are using it for. Also not as shiny and vibrant as laminate.
We use ours for PEC symbols, which get handled frequently, and also for therapy materials.
Also if you are laminating items, I would recommend cutting them out before you laminate them, this way you get a border around the item. If you laminate the whole sheet and then cut them after laminating there is no edge of laminate and they come apart alot easier.

The clear is great, and sometimes you can pick up a roll for one dollar! (The role may not be the same size as Mac Tac though).
Just a tip!September 24, 2003 at 12:42 am #6302Louise WatsonMemberoops the laminator is from staples
September 24, 2003 at 12:17 am #6301Louise WatsonMemberI got my laminator at future shop for $75.00 and it had a money back rebate for the whole thing if you bought a pack of sleeves, although i am going to try mac tac now. its called the gbc creative laminator , only thing is that it only does up to 8inches wide.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents…
All the websites are great!! There was a few I did not have. One website I like is:
http://www.learningpage.com Lots of good stuff.Re: Picture This Cd. I prefer the Picture This Pro version as it has more for your money.
I agree with having a digital camera, especially if you are just starting out. My camera is still going non stop and I don't know what I did without it.
Take care

By far my best tip…I get so excited about this one. I have found a GREAT professional SLP (Speech & Language) PECS website. Here, teachers & SLP's share tips and "hundreds" of PEC pages & games they have created on their own. Also, chat boards, communication boards, Dr. Suess games, shopping, bingo, seasonal games, guess who.. (Hey, who couldn't use some extra time by borrowing someone elses creativity?) Most of the PEC (picture symbols) are created using BoardMaker, however they can be printed in whole, directly from the website. You DON'T need BoardMaker to print the pages. (You might need a program like Acrobat for printing the PDF files) Click on "MATERIALS EXCHANGE" on the homepage. This should help some newbies out. I have printed out several pages & activities. I truly recommend taking 30 min. when you're in your pj's (like Michelle!) and checking it out!

Has great school & preschool printouts. Dot-to-dots, dotted Alphabets, tracing, colouring, nursery rhymes, school-aged worksheets.MY TIPS #3:
http://www.dotolearn.com
Free PEC pages for printing. I find this one not as helpful though. My personal opinion.MY TIPS #4:
http://www.superduperinc.com
SLP materials (flash cards, games, cd's…) Free shipping. If you request, they will send you a free "IKEA size" catalogue. Did I mention free shipping? (We like free)MY TIPS #5:
http://www.learningplanet.com
More pre-school to school aged worksheets & gamesFor those of us who use them, computers are a wonderful tool, that can make life a lot easier. I hope you have time to explore these links.
Enjoy!

ps. thanks for the LD tip Dave, I didn't know they were free. I'm working on a few helpers for "in the supermarket" right now.September 23, 2003 at 5:53 pm #6295Carolynne DinesenMemberWhat a great thread. (Quite a refreshing change, we can all agree)
