We had no difficulty claiming the costs of our US consultant 3 years ago as a medical claim. We also claimed hotel and car rental. I recommend you get the consultant to bill you for these items on the consultant bill as this is a lot cleaner than trying to convince Rev Canada that a hotel bill is for your consultant.
By the way, is LIFE recognized by the MCFD list of providers?

June 11, 2004 at 11:29 pm #7290Amr HafezMemberHello Everyone,
Does anyone have experience in claiming medical expenses for your in-home ABA program if you are using a U.S. consultant (fromLIFE).
Are those consultants qualified to make the prescription Revenue Canad needs, and are the expenses that you pay to your non-Canadian consultant deductible? Thanks,
AmrJune 11, 2004 at 1:45 am #7291Jenny ObandoMemberHI Caroline, we have visited a good eye Dr here in Maple Ridge and my son needed glasses, I am not sure how much experience he has with autistic children. My son is doing very well and I think It was very easy. I actually think my husband Todd (paramedic) help your child.
Anyways feel free to contact the Dr and ask questions his number is 604-460-0361 his name is Dr Strath, he is actually in Pitt Meadows.
I hope it helps,if not you can try and get a referral to an eye Dr at Children's Hospital, however I don't know what the wait would be.
Good luck

We are needing to see a pediatric opthemologist, for our 5 year old son, who needs follow-up after a trauma. Anyone had any great experience & can recommend one?
We are willing to visit any recommended Dr. in the Lower Mainland, experienced with Autistic children. I don't know what's worse.. the actual injury.. or the visit to see the doctor…
P.S. Special thanks to Todd, our paramedic!! Our Autism connection was a comforting distraction to my poor nerves in the ambulance. Thank you!

June 9, 2004 at 4:51 pm #7294Deleted UserMemberI would like to extend my gratitude to those of you actively fighting for our children. Mere words are inadequate.
Each one of us, sat in that doctors office and had a name attached to our fears-diagnosis: autism. We were offered inadequate service, and minimal hope.
From the time we went to the GP to address our concerns, and the time we were finally given a diagnosis, we waited a year. We watched our son regress. My baby did not play with toys. He had minimal eye contact. From the time he was 2 years old until he was 3 1/2 he did not speak a word. He did not acknowledge my presence in the room.
Thank you Sabrina. You personally took time out of your busy schedule to address my concerns in the beginning of this journey. With the information you provided us, we are on our way.
Thank you Michelle. You cannot see my tears as I write this, but I assure you they are there. After only 4 months of treatment, my son is starting to look into my eyes when I walk in the door. He has spoken 8 words, there is a light shining in his eyes were there had only been indifference. You have given me a gift beyond all measure, my child is calling me mom for the first time.
We have had so much help along the way. Without the efforts of those of you that came before us, we would be looking at our future in a totally different light. We are so grateful to you all
Sincerely, Amie
Lyric and Ayn's momJune 7, 2004 at 5:36 am #7295Nancy WaltonParticipantThere WILL be a Surrey/Delta/Langley ASBC meeting Thursday June 10th, 7-9 pm. The location is the Semiahmoo House Society at 15306 24 Ave, South Surrey.
We will be having a discussion with the focus on running an ABA program at home. This may be a great opportunity for new parents or for those parents who must switch to workshop model programs. I have run an ABA program in my home for 4 years, 2 of these years were under workshop model.
We can discuss:
-where, who and how to hire therapists
-questions to ask a perspective therapist
-expectations for your therapists
-how to find or groom a lead therapist
-how to keep a tightly run programCall Nancy at 604-538-8021 if you have any questions. Otherwise, I'll see you there.

May 16, 2004 at 11:06 pm #7296Sheila HotraMemberHi,
Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for popular, cool, hip, games, toys, videos, etc. that 8 year old boys are into these days, that might be interesting for an autistic child. We are looking for some more ideas for our play program.
Thanks, feel free to email me directly at shotra@shaw.ca or post on the chat board.
May 8, 2004 at 4:06 pm #7297Mike & JeanParticipantWhoops! Change the date!
Sorry everyone! The next F.E.A.T. meeting is on Monday, May 17th not June 17th in my previous post. Clearly, I need coffee before posting messages.
