ABA Therapy is GST Exempt:
http://www.featbc.org/cgi-local/forum/show.cgi?tpc=4&post=5412#POST5412This means that any person who is providing ABA therapy charges GST at a rate of 0%. Hooray

June 14, 2005 at 9:48 pm #4143Stella LiParticipantI don't pay GST to my consultants. I think if the consultant has a company then she/he has to pay GST to Revenue Canada. Then she/he may charge GST. Make sense?

June 14, 2005 at 9:08 pm #4144Debra AntifaevMemberHi Everyone!
Just a quick question (one I believe was asked and answered here last year!!!)
Are consultants required to charge GST?
I know my last consultant had to pay GST to the Government and had an awful time reversing those charges (don't get me started on Revenue Canada!)
Once the charges were reversed for the consultant, we were reimbursed and were not charged GST again.
What's the bottom line?Thanks
DebJune 14, 2005 at 12:14 am #4145Randy and Lily GullyMemberHi Monika, in regards to your post on the extra wear and tear. Please advise what kind of receipts were remitted in that you got the approval for the grant.
June 13, 2005 at 7:26 pm #4146Justin HimmelrightMemberre: homeowners grant. My understanding is that it does not apply to our situation. I looked into it last year. Basically, the grant is intended to offset any additional costs you may have incurred in order to modify your home to accomodate the disabled person living there. Things like ramps and elevators etc.
June 13, 2005 at 6:36 pm #4147Barbara RodriguesParticipantre: homeowners grant – I don't think just receipts for 'therapy' will do it. My understanding was the child had to need help 'phsyically in areas to qualify'. Also if your child is not on the severe end of the spectrum – just having 'autism' does not mean they get the grant. I think the grant is mainly meant for physically disabilities -ie: CP – wheelchair etc. I know one family who got the grant but their child does need physical assistance with movement etc. I never applied for it on the basis I was told my son would not qualify – also the disability is supposed to be one that there is no help for it – that was pretty hard to do when you are fighting for ABA funding and stating it helps the child. But I am interested in finding out if I was told wrong and this is a grant we can receive. Anyone actually getting it? Does your child have gross motor problems?

June 13, 2005 at 6:01 pm #4148Randy and Lily GullyMemberIn response to applying for extra reduction for home owners grant….I had applied at City of Burnaby a couple of months ago and had received a rejection notice…."The province has rejected your claim regarding physical assistance. Receipts for therapy do not qualify". You may appeal this decision within 30 days of the date of this letter.
Well, has anyone else tried applying and if they were accepted…what receipts were remitted?June 13, 2005 at 4:12 pm #4149Aryn BurtonMemberMy name is Aryn burton I am 26 and a mother of a high functioning 6 year old boy. My son is ending kindergarden this year. I am searching for parents in the sea to sky corrider to be able to chat with. I have had a few different service providers and am still not confident with the one current. I feel trapped in Whistler and un able to come up with and awesome support with therapy for my son. I am now at the mark where my son only recieves the lower amount of funding.
Please if any other parents have had a struggle pulling it all together and can provide some support or information to get me moving, please call or e-mail me
Thank you for your time.
