July 19, 2005 at 5:53 am #4133Nancy WaltonParticipantHOW'S THAT SOCIAL LIFE COMING ALONG???
Time to get out and have some fun. The Pizza Party/Garage Sale is a fantastic opportunity to socialize with a bunch of up-beat, proactive parents, therapists and consultants. Some parents are coming solo, some are getting out together for the night. Reserve your ticket now at wiklo@shaw.ca. Details below:
6pm doors open, hand over any garage sale items you are donating, have a glass of wine or pop and socialize
6:30 Garage sale begins. Stock up on therapy supplies and toys at cheap prices!!!!
7:00 Dinner is served. Help yourself to Pizza and salad and more wine or pop (tea or coffee)
8:00 All garage sale items will be half price.
9:00 All left over items are free.
The Party is at Semiahmoo House Society, 15306 24th Ave South Surrey. This is a lovely building with large doors that open up to allow a garden like atmosphere if weather is good.
Hope to see you there

Hi Christine. Regarding the extra pediatrician's diagnosis, I know of an excellent doctor who diagnosed both of my boys, and has helped other families I know in this regard. I don't know if he would want me to post his name for various reasons, but if you'd like to send me your email address, I would be happy to give you his contact information. My email is roganddot@shaw.ca .
Good luck. DorothyJuly 15, 2005 at 4:10 pm #4135David ChangMemberHi Christine,

July 6, 2005 at 5:28 am #4137Christine HungMemberHi everyone,
I am Christine and my family just moved to north Burnaby from Taiwan last month. I have an 3 1/2 yr old daughter who was diagnosed with ASD at the age of 2 yr and 8 mo in Taiwan.
I have already found her an ABA consultant who is willing to start her ABA program in August. My social worker told me that MCFD will acknowledge the diagnosis I brought from Taiwan but I still need two more, one from pediatrician and another from SLP, which I am now working on it.
Since I am new here and new to this whole process, I would appreciate any advice or info from experienced parents.
Thanks and regards,
ChristineJuly 1, 2005 at 11:31 pm #4138David BridgesMemberHi folks!
Is anyone out there using a Lightwriter talking machine?
Any thoughts, comments on integrating this into an ABA program?
My son can talk but I'm just wanting to to get out some more of that stuff that's going on inside his head. Naturally, I don't want him to become too dependent on it, but I'm intrigued by the possibility that he might have a lot more to communicate.
Just wondering,
DB
July 1, 2005 at 2:27 am #4139Dave CollyerMemberHello all,
I am new to this board… and would like to apologize as I cannot seem to sort out how it is organized… if this is not the correct spot to post please let me know.
Well… I am also new to the Autism "game". Some background before my question… Our son is 3.8 years old. He has Down Syndrome and has very recently been diagnosed with Autism. We live in Victoria. We have opted for Direct Funding to a Trust account. We have contracted with a Behavioral Consultant from ACT's QSP LIST. We are now searching for Autism Interventionists (AI) or "therapists". I am a bit stumped re. the employer-employee issue though. No mater how I read the CCRA info I cannot seem to see a way around potential AIs being "seen" by CCRA as employees. How are folks dealing with this issue? If this topic has been dealt with else where please point me towards the relevent posts. I have tried a number of keyword searches re. this issue on the FEAT site but nothing related pops up. I have spoken to one mother of a child with Aspergers re. this topic. She is about to be "called to the bar" and it is her very unofficial understanding of this issue that AIs are most likely employees in most cases. Also have consulted with a family friend who is a lawyer and he feels that most AIs would be ruled to be employees by CCRA. I dunno.
Thanks in advance.
Dave

June 29, 2005 at 2:24 am #4140Deleted UserMemberI have a question for anyone out there is you have a child experiencing strange sleeping behaviours. Our daughter has been rocking and banging in her sleep since we can remember. When she was in the crib, we had to pad the crib with foam as she would bruise her back and head from the banging. Now, if she is even mildly disturbed in her sleep, she will either sway from side to side or bang her head on her pillow. She sleeps in a curled up position with her legs curled up under her tummy facing the pillow with her head on her hands. Looks very uncomfortable. We had her and our oldest daughter together in the same bed but had to put her in her own bed as she is impossible to sleep with. She is sleeping when she begins rocking or banging. If anyone else has experienced this, I am wondering what may have helped you if you were able to get your child over this behaviour. Please email me at cobrattack@telus.net
Thanks,
