Anyone has experience dealing with using drug to treat autism? My son's psychiatrist suggests him to take "Risperidone" to decrease abnormal excitement in the brain. My son will be 7 in September.

August 18, 2005 at 3:02 pm #4113Lis LouwrierParticipantHello All,
I wish I could have attended Nancy's garage sale. It sounded like a success.
I would like to know if anyone is wishing to sell or donate Sesame Street Videos, puppets , puzzles or books to our son. Our five year old son in program LOVES the old videos and I would like to use them as reinforcement for working hard all day. Kermit the Frog is his favourite man!
My email is louwrier@shaw.ca and my telephone number is 250-592-8896. I live on the Island but am willing to make arrangements to meet up.
I may have some items for younger children in program if someone is interested in a trade.
Thanks a bunch!
Lis (Ryan's mom, age 5)
August 18, 2005 at 5:20 am #4114Super DadParticipantDebra, I agree with you but I want to add that Nancy also spends time helping people via phone or email. I remember there was a time when the monthly meeting was just not enough, and Nancy spent the extra time to help me survive. She is a fine example of the FEAT BC tradition. Now when I feel too tired or busy to help another parent, I think of Nancy and I help with no hesitation.

August 9, 2005 at 5:16 pm #4115Debra AntifaevMemberWent to Nancy's "Garage Sale" and it was great, even though some real fast-footed parents beat me to the "Franklin" books!!!!
Just want to take this opportunity to thank Nancy for organizing it all. Where you find your time and your ideas and your stamina, is beyond me, Nancy. There is never any complaining, never any need for recognition and you, of all people, SHOULD be recognized for all your hard work.
Not all of you may know that Nancy was also moving house, renovating, organizing therapy, baby-sitting a traumatized husband (he hates moving!!) and STILL organizing the monthly ASBC meetings through-out.
Thank You!August 9, 2005 at 5:31 am #4116Nancy WaltonParticipantThe Pizza Party/Garage Sale was quite a success. We all had a wonderful time. But more importantly, we raised $285 for the Friends of Children with Autism, supporting the Wynberg Law Suit in Ontario. A kick in the bucket…but if 9 other groups put on similar parties, we could hand over $2850 !!!
To be quite honest, the dinner and wine was fun, but did not really make much money. The big money maker was the garage sale. We had lots of items brought in and some serious door-crasher buyers ready to scoop up some good deals (thanks to therapists on several teams who forewarned parents of what items were leaving one team and would be good for another). Most of the garage sale was over in 20 minutes. So other groups could do one just before a regular support group meeting. Or just have some friends over to your house and run a swap meet.
In anycase, we all felt like winners. We got to get rid of old therapy stuff and others got to pick up some great bargains.
Best of luck to the Wynberg group.
Thanks to Elenore, Paul, Pam, Domenica and Deb for helping out.
For those of you who couldn't make it, or want to set up your own Pizza Party/Garage Sale, you may contribute by cheque or through Paypal via the name Friends of Children with Autism. If you are sending a cheque, please mail it to:

thanks to you all that replied to my message on the board. It was great help and we finally got our account set up with CIBC (youth account) just like you said Stella. And will be able to deposit directly in it as it is in my son's name and I'm approved to do transactions in it too.
Thanks again for all your help. I also would like to know if anybody as used Aba centre with Dr. Jacobsen and what you think about them…
Thanks to you all this forum is really of great help; I never thought I would get so many answers in no time for my last post.
Thanks

My son has a youth account with CIBC. There is no charge for writing cheques, no monthly charge for debit and credit because of the "youth discount". He even earned a small interest every month!
His account was under my name INF (in trust of) his name.
The only problem was that the cheques from MCFD was under my name, so I cannot deposit the cheques directly to my son's account. Have to write a cheque (from my account to his) after I deposit the MCFD cheque to my account. I get used to it.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need more help.

I opened my account at Royal Bank. The 1st time I went there, I met a lady and explained to her but it didn't work out. Then, I asked my social worker to provide a letter which explain why I need a chq in trust account and they created one for me. It's called: Leo's Young Saver Account. They even offered me $5 for opening this account. I remember the man was so kind, his name is Fran Xiao ( I think he knows about this already so you won't need the letter from your social worker) . I opened it at 400 Main Street, Vancouver. You can even call that branch 604 665 5240 to ask for info or to make an appointment to see who you'd like to talk to. What I got is an chq account with monthly statement send to me and 15 times free to use chq or bank machine. If you need more info, you can email me at tnkaccount@yahoo.com
Good luck.
TinaAugust 7, 2005 at 6:45 pm #4121Jenn RalphMemberHi Anne,
The TD Canada Trust branch in Richmond that we use for this account seemed very experienced with these in-trust accounts when we first opened the account. I remember they needed a form from our social worker, at MCFD, which we had, and that was it.
I also got them to let me deposit into the account from the bank machine (but no withdrawals from a machine are allowed), so I don't have to wait in line for a teller every month.
I pay a flat fee of $3.95 per month.
Hope this helps, good luck.
