November 18, 2005 at 3:38 am #4032Mike & JeanParticipant
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, families and friends who came out to the, "Medicare for Autism Now!" rallies held across Canada today. About 100 people attended the Vancouver rally at the Vancouver Public Library. My heartfelt thanks to all who organized and participated; special thanks to Justin Himmelright, David Chan, Nancy Walton, Debra Antifaev, Bev Sharpe, Jenny Obando, Sabrina Freeman and everyone else who took the time to come out and support our children.
As I said today, we've made some considerable gains but we still have a long way to go, so stay in touch, stay connected, and keep working and helping each other…and remember….
"A small group of thoughtful people could change
the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that
ever has."
– Margaret Mead –I am honoured and humbled to be part of this incredible movement; and so proud to be associated with all of you.
Thankyou all!

November 14, 2005 at 8:10 pm #4034Justin HimmelrightMemberThere are a couple of items that would be helpful for the rally on the 17th. Do you have:
– a folding table?
– a small generator?
– a pop-up picnic awning (to cover the table)?that you would be willing to share?

Please take a moment to download the media advisory about the upcoming rally on November 17th and send it to your MP along with a request that they join Andrew Kavchak on the Hill that day.
They need to get this message from their constituents!
The media advisory is available on the front page of http://www.canadaautism.com
Thanks all!
November 14, 2005 at 7:19 pm #4036Stella LiParticipantHi everyone,
My son loves his Barney books which I bought from the ABA fundraising nite at the South Surrey meeting site (Thanks you Nancy for organizing!! We had fun and got excellent stuff. Hope we can do this more often).
My son had the "Barney & Baby Bop Go to the Doctor" book and "Barney & Baby Bop Go to the Library" books. However, he really wants to have: Barney go to the fire station, Barney go to school,…books. He has been asking for those books every day!!
If you have Barney books that your child no longer reads, please let me know. I will be pleased to purchase and pick up the books! If you know other source of getting those books, pls also let me know. Thanks!

Malaspina University College
NanaimoTopic: ABA in the Classroom
In this session, parents and aides will share experiences and materials to successfully transition from home to school (including preschool) for children of varying ages and abilities. Topics will include:
* Promoting a positive, productive, child-centered home / school relationship
* How to marry home programs and school expectations in as smooth a way as possible.
* The importance of an IEP that considers all aspects of the childs development (language, academic, social, maladaptive behaviours, self-help skills)
Participants are asked to bring along samples of IEPs and materials that you have used to help your child be successful in the classroom. We plan to have a whole group presentation and discussion, a time to share materials, and a time for parents and aides to meet in their own groups to share ideas.
This will be an open meeting. All are welcome.
Please email diane_t@shaw.ca if you plan to attend, so that we may plan appropriate seating and refreshments.
Hope to see you there.
Thanks.
DianeNovember 2, 2005 at 5:19 pm #4041FEAT BC AdminKeymasterI'm posting this opportunity on behalf of some ABA researchers in Tennessee. Note that participants receive some "freebies":
ABA4Autism.com and the Psychology Department at the University of Tennessee at Martin are conducting a second survey on the causes of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This survey is for mothers of children with ASD as ell as mothers of normally developing children who are ten years of age or younger. Mothers who participate in the survey will receive a free ABA program to teach their child to follow directions as well as free ABA mini programs for common problems like sharing. To take the survey please go to http://www.aba4autism.com
Thanks for your consideration.
