Hi: This is off topic but my cousin has just been diagnosed with Aspergers (she is 15 turning 16). She has always had outbursts and behavioral issues and extreme interests in certain things but I think it was chalked up to being spoiled/rude, etc. (I am not near her so have not seen in her since she was very little as my uncle and her mom divorced many years ago).
Does anyone know what the protocol would be at this age?
Thanks for any info. You may email me privately at westernad@hotmail.com

January 19, 2006 at 8:24 pm #5062Dave CollyerMemberHello all,
As my search for a new consultant continues I frequently check the ACT QSP board… as such I came across an update regarding more consultants who appear to be at risk of being removed from the list (on top of those who have already been removed). Again it appears to be a mater of incomplete paper work and not a reflection of the quality of work or competence of the consultants. The situation has served to "limit" options for us on our search and may have an impact on those who utilize the consultants who are risk. I have called ACT and they have inidcated that when paper work is completed then those in compliance will be able to be able to be reentered onto the QSP "list".
http://www.actbc.ca/newsreleases_Out_Province_Providers_2ndNotice.htm
According to the update those at risk are:
Shelley Davis Behaviour Consultant
Billie Jo Davis, Ph.D. Behaviour Consultant
Lisa Wincz Behaviour Consultant
Rosemary White Occupational Therapist… and agencies at risk or who are in the midst of updating paperwork are:
Bancroft Neuro Health Hopkins
CSAAC (Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children)
Lovaas Institute for Early Intervention*
May CenterI hope they get the paper work done as some good folks are at risk of being "delisted"…
Dave.

January 18, 2006 at 5:37 pm #5064Dave CollyerMemberHello to all in the Greater Victoria area… on Saturday January 21st FEAT presents the intermediate workshop in Vancouver. I have room for three additional people in my Van (seats 7) for any who want to catch a ride with us. It will be a tight fit with all seats filled but if we "van pool" costs will be less. We will be boarding the 7:00 AM ferry and will return on the 7:00 PM if all goes according to plan.
If interested let me know:

January 15, 2006 at 7:13 pm #5068Linda CucekMemberOur Precious Gift
Our Precious Gift
Children are a precious gift
They fill our lives with joy and wit
We need to nurture them along
So that our kids will grow up to be strong
If an avenue seems to be blocked
We must open new doors and keep them unlocked
It is our job and mission in life
To give our kids the tools to do right
So when they grow up to lead our world
All of their sails will be unfurled
Theyll do it with grace and Knowledge to bear
That they are our greatest gift and we do and will always care
Our children come into our world aiming to please
But some of our children have special needs
We need to invent a way to guide them through
So within our world they can renew
Their self-esteem, knowledge, and pride
This is our first job as parents TO GUIDE
And through this guidance and our love
Our children will prosper and rise above
The depths of any despair
With the simple knowledge that WE CARE
CE.C.E. Wood 25 Feb 99
This is a beautiful poem, and I hope one day that all our Autistic children will have health care covered with the medical and that the bill Bill C-459 will be approved.
Sincerely, Linda Cucek (James Cucek's Mom)
